Masterlock has pretty much been the brand that we have always used from combination locks to keyed locks, to padlocks of every sort, so when I was asked to review one of their new cable locks, I was thrilled!

With Spring here, and Summer coming, that means transporting Miss Grace and her bike a lot of different places, and I would feel better, knowing I could secure it outside a restaurant or store, and not have to hike it back to the car before we go in!

Did you know that bike riding is the second most popular outdoor activity in America, behind running?

Unfortunately, a new survey from Master Lock revealed that more than one-third of riders don’t lock up their bikes, and nearly half of Americans have had their bike stolen, or know someone who has.

Did you also know that regular riding can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke by 50 percent?
Yup, it is a great way to get outside and enjoy the spring and summer months, together as a family too!

I selected the Masterlock 8220D bike lock to review.

As you can see it has LETTERS instead of numbers for the combination. It is SUPER easy to change the combination by following the 3 step instructions! We changed it to one that Miss Grace could remember and then took it out to test it!

One of the things I like, besides the letter code, is the long cable attached to the lock! This meas you don't have to be stuck like glue to the pole, post or whatever you are chaining your bike to! And with the great vinyl covering, you don't have to worry about your hands getting dirty or pinched from the links, like from old fashioned bike chains/locks!

The vinyl cable is actually a braided steel cable, for strong cut resistance, encased in protective vinyl coating, with a length og 6 feet! So you could possibly get TWO bike attached to a pole, depending on the pole and bikes width!

Here's a closer look.

You can see how thick the cable is!

It also comes with a holder that you can attach to your bike. That takes about 2 minutes to fully install, so you don;t leave home without your lock! As Miss Grace may be graduating over the Summer to a bike sans training wheels, we opted not to install in on her bike yet. We will on the next bike.

Another thing that we may find a use for the lock is hurricane season.
Should we have to pull out the generator and use it, we can use this bike lock, as it is more than long enough, to chain the generator to the house post. And yes, this is a major issue, and generators are the first thing that get stolen during power outages in a hurricane. SIGH.

For under $20, this is a super duper, multi-purpose lock, and one that we highly recommend! If you prefer a regular type cable lock, they have those too! So let Masterlock secure your valuables this Spring and Summer!
