Summer is a time to test out new learning strategies in a 'safe' environment, and with time on your side, to see what works, and doesn't work for your child, before the stress of school work is upon them, which is why I wanted to include this book in this week's "I'm Bored' feature.

A Parent's Playbook of Learning cover

SynopsisA detailed, practical guide to help parents (and teachers!) understand how different personality types learn best!

The techniques revealed in this book will teach parents specific, research-backed, actionable strategies amassed from nearly 100 reference texts with respect to:
* How to create a learning environment that allows their kids to excel and develop confidence in their abilities.
* How to support and encourage their kids' educations in ways that are best for him or her.
* How to teach their kids the strategies that help them each play to their individual learning strengths.

Book reveals how each of the eight personality types naturally:
* Get organized
* Get motivated
* Approach new concepts
* Learn in groups
* Take notes and "file" knowledge
* Tackle homework and test prep
* Gravitate to certain extracurriculars and teachers
* Handle successes and failures

This book is a CONDENSED version of Jen Lilienstein's award-winning Playbooks for Learning

Review:  Lilienstein says there are 8 types of learners- introvert and extrovert feeler, intuitive, sensor and thinker, and by determining which your child is, you can determine how they learn, and what works best for them. The ideas in the book are a little too simplimatic- Miss Grace fell under 2 different ones, so I had to go to the website (Kidzmet.com) and take the quiz there, before I could move on with the book.

As Miss Grace is still young, she still is fluctuating between different learning styles (ie Math comes super easy to her, reading not), so for now, setting different learning environments for those topics is working, but as she gets older the ideas in this book will be more helpful. Right now she is definitely an Extrovert Sensor and very Kinesthetic in how she learns. I think it will be a very handy resource for homeschooling parents and teachers alike as well- to help them see where a problem with a child may be coming from and how best to address it (in a non-traditional way).

If you are looking for a new way to approach learning issues, give this book and the personality quiz a shot!
