Review: This is a lovely book of knitted afghans for baby, that can all be made bigger for toddlers or young children. I have to admit, I have ZERO knitting capabilities! Seriously- the whole time I was learning to Tunisian Crochet (review post on that later this week), I kept remembering my grandmother trying to teach me to knit over and over without success, and not comprehending why I could just NOT master it! I can crochet, which she also taught me, but 2 needles? Nope not gonna happen. She finally threw her hands up in exasperation and said I was just NOT a knitter! LOL
So I had my Mom, who apparently got the knitting gene but failed to pass it on to me, check out the book. "Most of the 60 blankets are for medium level knitters or above, due to multiple stitch changes and the types of stitches. If you are a beginner knitter, you may want to start with the Not Your Granny Square afghan (pix above). It is a great afghan to use for a baby shower present- you can have different family members each make one of the granny squares (knitted or crochet) and you do the central afghan, then piece it all together and go back and cross stitch the baby's name on the knitted large section, if you know it in advance, and offer as a family made present to the luck Mom to Be, making it even more special to the baby's Mom! Another lovely pattern is Team Colors blanket (green and blue pix above), which will delight any football fan! Also simple is the Stripes Afghan (below), which can make use of the stray skeins of yarn you have around!"
The patterns are marked from 2-4 in skill level, each pattern has a LARGE color picture so you can see the stitches and how it looks finished (including the brilliant Union Jack blanket in honor of Prince George!)and a back glossary of abbreviations. the back cover also features a stitch ruler (hand to have with your pattern book to make sure your stitches aren't too loose or too tight), and a diagram glossary of the included embroidery stitches.
Thanks to Sterling for the opportunity to check out this lovely book of patterns, and I am very happy to offer the review copy to one lucky BTHM reader!
