Disclosure / Disclaimer: I received a sampler of Daregal Gourmet fresh frozen herbs, free of charge, from Daregal, via  Blog Friendly PR, as part of a compensated campaign, for review purposes on this blog. All opinions are my own and no other compensation was received.

As part of our new Adventures in Gluten Free, we've been having to cook from scratch, aka HOMEMADE, and having the right spices and herbs has been very central to having successful, converted, recipes!

So I was thrilled when I was selected to join the Daregal Gourmet fresh frozen herbs campaign,
 at Blog Friendly PR!

Did I just get a blank look???

Let's start with the basics!

Daregal is a family owned company, that has been around since 1887, in Milly-la-Foret, France. They are a seed to table company, growing their own herbs from sees and bringing them to their clients, thus making their company the herb experts! They also oversee all their own production and warehouses, so you know that quality control is constant and integral to the brand!

For eons it seems, they have been the choice of culinary experts around the world, and now home cooks can sample the same great tasting herbs, straight from their own freezers, with the new innovation from Daregal, of: fresh frozen herbs. These ready-to-use frozen chopped herbs can go directly from the freezer into any soup, sauce, salad, or spread, no thawing necessary. You just remove the container from your freezer, give it a little shake to loosen the chopped herbs, and sprinkle out the desired amount you need for your dish(es). Easy peasy!

And they stay fresh for 36 months in your freezer! Yup, I just said 3 years. I know- I was STUNNED when I read that! Why would you ever need dried yucky spices again?  Seriously, get the basics, and you don't need anything else. Just look how vivid they are on some mayo I made up (more on that next week!):

. Yup, that's what FRESH parsley SHOULD look like!

I found myself using them for just about ANYTHING- the ease and FRESH flavor was just amazing!

Check out this spur of the minute Shrimp Pasta Toss I made:

Do you see all those herbs? I use dill, parsley and onion!

Here is the basic recipe (sorry I don't have the accompanying photos, but somehow the 6 yr old, who THINK she knows how to use my phone, deleted said photos while trying to find the ones of HER at the car show....GRRRRRRR, and bad blogger I was, I hadn't transferred them to my computer yet...SIGH), anyhoo...

Ingredients:
1 lb of shrimp, shelled and deveined (can also use crawfish)
1 pack of taglioni pasta (or linguine or spaghetti)-I also threw in some left over veggie pasta, as you can see
1pack or can of mushrooms, cleaned and drained
1/2 red pepper, sliced thinly
1/2 yellow pepper, sliced thinly
Daregal fresh frozen herbs- Dill, Parsley and Onion
parmessan cheese, to taste (we used about 1/3 cup)
olive oil

Directions:
1. Saute bell pepper and mushrooms, with a handful of the onion, put aside
2. Meanwhile, start water, and then boil your pasta, drain
3. In same pan, saute shrimp in 1/3 cp water, drain
4. In large pot, add all your ingredients, a touch of oilve oil (1 tbsp about),
and the Parmesan cheese. Stir.
5. Add dill and parsley and stir again. Serve!

We served 3 adults and the aforementioned 6 yr old, and everyone had seconds,
and I had enough left over for lunch the next day- I just added a touch of butter to it, to freshen it up!
We also sprinkled some of the dill and parsley on the accompanying salad!

How else have we used the herbs?

Check out this simple beef stir fry:

Take beef stew meat, dredge in your flour of choice, fry up in your oil of choice. Saute onions and peppers in same pan, then add beef back to pan, and bag of frozen stir-fry veggies (they kind with bean pods!), and some fish sauce (seriously- it is THE magic of making a good stir fry), and then add your fresh frozen onion, dill and parsley. BAMM- a simple weeknight dinner that you can serve over rice and make everybody happy-instant comfort food! Can you see all the herbs just sitting there, waiting for you to eat them up?

I know i haven't mentioned the cilanto we received, but we are not big cilantro fans, and only use it when we make salsa and Mexican food, which we haven't made since the herbs came in. I do have to admit that the dill is my favorite herb! We use it in just about everything- we've always liked using it, but it just wasn't the same using dried dill, versus fresh, like we used to get when we lived out West!

We have LOVED the fresh frozen herbs- they make every dish just come ALIVE with flavor!
Because we live in the boonies, it is hard for us to find fresh herbs locally, and we've tried growing them, without success (except for chives for some weird reason...), so being able to order them, have them delivered TO MY door, and then having them keep in my freezer for 3 years? Yup, we are 100% SOLD and LOVE Daregal!

The primary line of fresh frozen herbs are parsley, basil, cilantro and garlic. There are 14 herbs and collections total, including the dill and onion (that I was sent), tarragon, ginger, chives, lemon zest, Persillade (a combo of parsley, onion and tarragon-a very French blend!), Italian, (Parsley, Dill, Cress, Chervil, Chives, Sorrel.), Tzatziki (Greek blend)  and salade topper. So they have herbs for ALL your cooking and baking needs! We will be stocking up our freezer for sure!

Be sure to check out the Daregal website for some really great recipes too!

Daregal Gourmet herbs are available in the Daregal Gourmet Amazon store and in the Northeast region at Stop n Shop, and Giant Landover, among others (check the store locator for more).

  1. These sound wonderful and I love that you don't have to worry about them loosing their flavor. I also really like your beef stir-fry recipe too. I'm going to have to give it a try.
