Schwan's Can Make Back to School Easier and More Thankful!

Two weeks I told you about Schwan's new “Open the Door to Thankful” campaign. 

Each time a consumer shares a few words about something for which they are thankful on the Schwan’s  Facebook app, Schwan’s Home Service will donate five meals ($1 helps provide 9 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local food banks) to Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization. 
The posts will also appear on consumers’ Facebook walls and there is no limit to the number of times one can post why they are thankful.  The program will run through October 11, 2013.

I was recently sent samples from their new breakfast and dinner lines to try out!

English Muffin Breakfast Sandwich:
You know you want to take the next bite of that sandwich, don't you? LOL
Similar to the famed sandwich you know from a certain fast food joint, this is WAY better, bigger and more filling! It has a pork sausage patty with scrambled eggs and American cheese on a toasted English muffin. All you do is heat the egg and sausage, then put it on the bun with the cheese, reheat and bamm, you have a super VERY tasty breakfast! I would definitely buy these again- they aren't much more than the fast food place, but they ARE bigger, so you get your money's worth! This version is on the high side re cholesterol, but they do have a LiveSmart alternative, that has egg whites and turkey sausage, if that is an issue. 

Beef Pot Pie This actually wasn't the dish I was expecting, but we were all VERY pleasantly surprised and happy with the substitute! This pie has a satisfying homemade taste that is rich with lots of tender beef, sweet carrots, peas and onions, in a meaty well-seasoned beef gravy topped with a tender freshly-baked pastry crust. Can be cooked in the oven or microwave. Even the kid dubbed the pies "YUMMY!"- they almost taste like they have a burgundy enfused gravy- just like how Grandma used to make them! All that was needed was a side salad, for a wonderful dinner!
We cooked ours in the microwave for convenience and time saving (they require 45 minutes in oven), and I have to say they came out just fine, but next time I would definitely try them in the oven, for a crispier bottom crust. Just be sure that if you are microwaving you extend the cooking time, if you are cooking more than one at a time! 
As you can see- the veggies are fresh and tasty- the carrots even had a little crunch still to them- just like we all like, and the chunks of beef were very good sized-the pie on the right is after the kid demolished half of one and was full! 
All in all, I was quite please with the new options from Schwan's, and as soon as we get some freezer space cleared out, we will be stocking up on many of their dinner options!
