We're sharing some great kids books this week, full of adventure and other countries-
all perfect for Summer reading and exploring!

This is actually the 4th book in the If You Were Me and Lived in series-
we got slightly out of order in reviewing them!

Synopsis:
Number four in a series of world culture, If You Were Me and Lived in... Turkey, explores cultural differences through a child's understanding. A respectful and lively treatment of the subtle differences of the people from different parts of the globe we share. Join Carole P.Roman as she travels to learn out the people, culture, and customs of the people Turkey.

Review:

This book was really great for sharing new ideas with Miss Grace, about where things she is familiar with, actually came from! Younger children frequently are not aware of how our cultures have taken in words and foods from other cultures, and adapted them to ours, and this book shared many.

For instance, Miss Grace loves kabobs, and she was thrilled to see them explained in this book, as Doner kabobs:

If You Were Me and Lived in…Turkey sample 1

She also saw the similarities in the Natchitoches meat pies that are based on an Acadian pie, that is similar to the Borek in the story!

If You Were Me and Lived in…Turkey sample 2

She also recently had watched a cartoon where Ali Baba and his 40 thieves were part of the story, so when she read that Baba was the word for 'dad' n Turkey, she was thrilled to make the connection!

I was very happy to have the pronunciation guide for this book, as I needed help with some of the words!

We love this series, and this is a great educational tool to explore a new culture with your child!
