Movie Synopsis:
Four orphaned and homeless siblings happen upon an abandoned boxcar, which with a little creativity and hard work, they gradually furnish with all the comforts of home. Fearful that they will be sent to live with the reputedly cruel grandfather they have never met, the children keep their new home a secret - until a serious illness forces them to reveal themselves in order to save young Violet.

Review:
Miss Grace's teacher had read the class one of the Boxcar Kids books at the end of last school year, so she was very excited when the video came in the mail! In fact, it was the first time in 2 weeks that she was willing to sit by HERSELF and watch the whole movie, without needing to be otherwise occupied! It held her attention all the way through, and she delighted in coming and telling me ALL about the movie, and how it tied in with the book the teacher had read them! Having never read the series myself, I was pretty impressed with what she took away from the movie! I also heard her telling other people about the dvd when we were in the bookstore a few days later, looking for the books! She highly recommends the movie as a great family night movie!

I did not read this series as a child but we are reading this together this year in our homeschool.
ReplyDeleteI have not read this series, but one of my granddaughters has read a book or two and she loved it, I think it would be fun to see how these kids convert a boxcar into a home and how they deal with their problems.
