This is actually a short story, a novella, if you will, that helps to fill the void between books!

You know when you don't want to let go of your characters, but you know the author needs time to write them?

Well sometimes the author has an idea that isn't long enough for a book, but perfect for filling the void, and keeping you waiting for the next book.

Viola- the short story novella!

Synopsis:

Acclaimed by Michael Connelly as “a man for all seasons,” Inspector Alan Banks is among the most beloved characters in contemporary fiction. And now Banks confronts one of the most puzzling cases of his career – when a tourist claims that several decades earlier, in a previous life, he witnessed a murder committed nearby.

Banks doesn’t believe in the supernatural. Or superstition. But when evidence of a crime comes to light, he begins to wonder: How did this mysterious visitor know about a killing possibly committed before he was born?

Review:

This is a fun story, that is pure Banks- he is at his most bored point, and willing to jump on any case to get him out of the office, even an infamous 'ghost story'. But what he ends up finding is more than a ghost story and leaves him with a case that will likely haunt HIM for a very long time. The story brings to mind the saying of 'legend based on fact' and how what we know may not be the truth, just the truth that was told to us, and that we have no reason not to accept as truth. It is a great pageturner to see how Banks unravels a tightly wound web of lies and cover, to get at a simple truth, that the reader might guess at before the end, but keeps reading to see how it actually played out. Kudos to Robinson for another fun Banks read!

  1. Thank you for the heads up about this author. My husband just had back surgery and needs about 6 weeks worth of reading material. Nothing too deep since he doesn't feel well. I think these will be perfect.
