We talked with Lisa about this novella earlier this week, and shared our review of The Prayer Box, and today we have a review of the novella itself!
Synopsis: Elizabeth Gallagher has been balancing on the ragged edge for a while now. Then a rough case on the boards of her 911 operator’s job collides with a family conflict at home, and Elizabeth finds herself finally coming apart at the seams. A four-state road trip—trapped in a car with her mother—is the last thing she needs. Their destination may be beautiful Hatteras Island, but the reason for going is anything by pleasant.
After one disastrous hurricane, and with a second one working its way up the coast, it’s time to convince Aunt Sandy to abandon her little seaside store on North Carolina’s Outer Banks and return to the family fold in Michigan. But when the storm sweeps through, the three women will discover that sisterhood and the sea can change hearts, lives, and futures . . . often in the most unpredictable of ways.
Review: You know you read a book, and want to know more back story on the characters? Lisa understands this and she wrote this wonderful novella, to give her readers the back story behind how Sandy and her sister came to run Sandy's Seashell Shop: An Ocean of Possibilities, in The Prayer Box (which we reviewed earlier this week)! I couldn't put the novella down, it was such a great story of faith, of choices and consequences, of seeing a dream and seizing it! Lisa truly catches how friends can become family, and how sometimes family need to let you make the choice that is right for you!
Lisa truly gets WHAT it means to be a law enforcement/ 9-1-1 dispatcher and how they can suffer from PTS, just like officers, and how because they even thought they aren't the 'visible' first responder, they truly ARE the FIRST first responder to any emergency! I wanted to post this review yesterday, for 9/11 day, but with all the backlash coming about STILL honoring the day (really? we still remember Pearl Harbor, why is it any different?), I decided to take a different tack and remind everyone TODAY- the day after, that the first responders to that horrific event are STILL suffering from what they saw and had to do. They need to be honored not just ONE day a year, but ALL year long, and should still be in our prayers.Lisa's novella IS a story of thanks- of how first responders truly have a dedication to helping people, on AND off duty!
This novella will inspire you, remind you about the true meaning of family, and make you think about what is important in your life. AND make you want to go read The Prayer Box!
