Book Review: Read & Share Toddler Bible

read and share cover

As you can see from the button on the left- I am now a reviewer for Thomas Nelson books.

The most recent book I received from them is the Read and Share Toddler Bible by Gwen Ellis.

My daughter is only 2- traditional bibles are way above her comprehension level. Having a grandfather who is a deacon, she is the recipient of a couple of kids bibles already, but they are made for kids 6 and older. This bible is the first I've seen that actually keeps the intent of the story being told, but puts it in very simple language/words that a 2 yr old can understand AND comprehend. The illustrations are bright and eye catching to a toddler as well!

After only one reading with her grandfather, my daughter was able to tell me the story of the Ark and the water, and the story of the garden and the snake, the next day. The stories had stayed with her.

The book contains 25 stories (some broken down into multiple chapters for easier reading): 16 stories from the Old Testament and 9 New Testament stories. The accompanying DVD brings 14 stories to life in 3 minutes per story, and is only an hour long. Very easy to keep a toddler's attention.

There are also little notes for parents included in the stories-they offer projects to help illustrate the story being told , things to do together to express the joy of the words being said, to help define what is happening , and to ways to discuss examples of right and wrong.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with small children and I will be using it as a baby christening present in the future, as it has a very nice presentation page in the front.
