Compilation cds can either be very good or very bad. Or they can be somewhere in the middle. In the old days before single song downloads (HORRORS, yes, we had to BUY the WHOLE cd for just 2 songs!), compilation cds were sometimes the best buy for the money. This explains the success of Now That’s What I Call Music (what are they on number 30 now?).
A Very Special Christmas cds came out as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics and has just kept going (on Vol 7 now!). My favorite has always been Volume 2 (the green one). Probably because it has a lot of 80s artists (came out in 1992), but I like the versions on it.
Tracks:
1. Christmas All Over Again by Tom Petty (unexpected from Tom and the boys)
2. Jingle Bell Rock by Randy Travis (nice with a country twang)
3. The Christmas Song by Luther Vandross )CLASSIC)
4. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town by Frank Sinatra (CLASSIC)
5. The Birth Of Christ by Boyz II Men
6. Please Come Home For Christmas by Jon Bon Jovi (SIGH, it was the 80’s he was a hair rock God, need we say any more? Best rendition ever!)
7. What Christmas Means To Me by Paul Young (ah, the other British hair god)
8. O Christmas Tree by Aretha Franklin
9. Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree by Darlene Love (loved her forever, so of course this is my favorite version of this song!)
10. White Christmas by Michael Bolton
11. Christmas Is by Run D.M.C. (CUTE)
12. Christmas Time Again by Extreme
13. Merry Christmas Baby by Charles Brown
14. O Holy Night by Tevin Campbell (nicely done)
15. Sleigh Ride by Debbie Gibson (really cute, not the best, but cute)
16. What Child Is This? by Vanessa Williams (see my previous review of her cds- WOW)
17. Blue Christmas by Nancy Wilson (ok, Elvis wins this one, but this is a cool version)
18. Silent Night by Wilson Phillips (nicely done)
19. I Believe In You by Sinead O'Connor (yeah , I KNOW, but it’s a decent song)
All Star Christmas is another cd that I’ve had for awhile (came out in 2000). Like AVSC it has a lot of 80s artists like Wham, and the eternal anthem, Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer. Nuff said!
