Children's Book Review: The Snowman’s Song: A Christmas Story Story by Marilee Joy Mayfield

Leaping Antelope Productions sent me the best children's Christmas book we've read so far this year, to review for them!

The Snowman’s Song: A Christmas Story, by Marilee Joy Mayfield and illustrations by Tracy La Rue Hohn, is a multi-media multimedia experience as it comes with a bonus CD of a reading of the entire story told in the author s voice. The cd is wonderful in transporting young listeners to the snowman' s winter wonderland!

The story is a moral tale that longed-for dreams CAN sometimes come true, and frequently not as we expect them to.It echoes the thought that God answers our prayers but not in the way we always expect and we need to keep faith and TRUST.

The tale: A forlorn little snowman hopes, prays and yearns with all his heart for a beautiful melodic voice so he can rejoice by singing Christmas carols just like human children do.There is little hope that he will ever have a voice, because the snow world is quiet and snowpeople communicate by sensing thoughts and feelings that travel as ice droplets in the swirling cold winter air. But when a cheery red cardinal awakens his mind and a kind young girl renews his hope,a Christmas miracle happens and the little snowman realizes his longed-for dream in a powerful, joyful, unexpected way

My daughter was enraptured with this tale- partly due to our having made our snowman the same day (yes, I planned it that way!), the engaging cd, and the gorgeous illustrations that draw you into the book. She's also enraptured with the Cardnals in our yard, so the cardinal in the book being a supporter of the snowman was very believable to her.

The Snowman’s Song brings home cornerstones of the Christian faith in a easy to understand and entertaining way for kids and I would highly recommend it to all parents. It would be a great book for children's bible classes as well!
