Book Review: Alphatudes

I was sent a new self-help/inspirational book, Alphatudes:  The Alphabet of Gratitude--26 Solutions for Life's Little Challenges, to  review this past week

Premise: In this inspiring book, author Michele Wahlder reveals that gratitude is the unexpected, simple secret of living a joyful life.  In a world filled with negativity bombarding us from all sides, we tend to forget the wonderful daily happenings all around us.  Alphatudes uses our earliest grade school victory—the ABCs—to help readers achieve a sustainable shift in thinking that leads to contentment, optimism and peace of mind.

An “alphatude” is defined as: a person, place or thing for which one alphabetically expresses gratitude.  Michele Wahlder uses these "alphatudes" along with vibrant illustrations to provide a 26 step method for staying focused on what is good, and right in life, and in the world.  Her book provides 26 life-affirming positive belief statements and 26 insightful lessons and prayers,  to connect readers to a higher truth.

Examples:
  • A-Acceptance- "I saw a star, reached for it,and missed. So I accepted the sky" (Scott Fortini)-acceptance is the peace filled acknowledgement that everything is exactly as it should be for the present moment. Very hard-but potentially lifechanging!
  • B-"Beauty is not in the face, but in the light of the heart" (Kahlil Gibran)-Beauty is present in each moment and can only be experienced when we cease trying to male it better, different, or more than it already is.
  • C- "It is choice, not chance, that determines your destiny" (Jean Nidetech)- the quality of our choices reflects the the amount of love we have for ourselves.
  • X- "The past should be a springboard, not a hammock" (Ivern Ball)-our past relationships should not be seen as failures, but as hard-earned lessons to strengthen and mold our characters.
In honor of this extraordinary book, legendary recording artist Olivia Newton-John has graciously provided a free download of her beautiful song, “Grace and Gratitude, with purchase of the book!

This was an interesting book that would be a perfect give for ANYTIME, bust especially as a Thank You/Gratitude gift! The chapters (letters) provide thoughtful inside- I really liked the one about the exs making us stronger- such a great way to think of them. For more info, check out Wahlder's website HERE and run and pick up a copy of the book for all your friends and family- and show them how much they mean to you!
