Product Review: Silver Star Ultra Headlights

Cathy at Blogger Link Up hooked me up with Gayle at Haggman PR about reviewing a new product for cars.

Ok, I know what you're thinking, and yes car products have NOT been a regular item on this blog (think not at all, LOL), but my suv is now 10 years old and going like a champ (knock on wood, it's a Nissan, we should be safe) and as I'm approaching 100,000 miles, we've had to do some small maitennance items. While my headlights had not gone out, we were seriously debating whether to get the headlight lens cover cleaning done at one of the local auto places, to see if that brought back the life of the headlights.

So when I heard about the offer to review the headlight bulbs, I thought why not give it a try first??
I was sent the Sylvania Silver Star Headlights to review. Sylvania is a leading supplier of headlamps and light bulbs to original equipment manufacturers the world over. Designed to meet and exceed the most demanding specifications, Sylvania lights deliver the brightest, safest illumination possible at a most economical price. Sylvania lamps meet or exceed your original bulb's performance while delivering the longest life and most innovative features available in the automotive aftermarket.

Whiter light helps you see better at night and if your night vision is better, night driving is safer. Silverstar is whiter light, closer to the color of daylight - the brightest, whitest, 100% legal halogen headlights anywhere! Check out the difference in the diagram below.

My headlights bulb were the ORIGINAL manufacture ones- aka the ones on the BOTTOM of the diagram. Now look at the top headlights on the diagram. Those were the ones I was sent! Was it a huge difference? OH YEAH. It was like going from a flashlight to an overhead light. SERIOUSLY! I turned on my headlights the first night and it was like I could see MILES down the road! Five days later and I'm STILL in awe!! The sides of the roadway are SO much more lit up (and I have foglights!) and they really made a difference when driving down a country highway this past weekend!

Why are the Silver Star Ultra's so much better?
  1. Whitest -  SilverStar's color temperature is a white hot 4,000 K, far higher than other halogens on the market and comparable to High Intensity Discharge headlights (like those of BMW)
  2. Brightest- SilverStar shines with a luminance up to 20% greater than other halogens. They light up 25% more area and last 30% longer than regular SilverStar's.
  3. Sharpest- A sharp profile, silver tip, and amethyst blue coating create a dramatic, high-end, crisp, clean look.
  4. Plug and play- SYLVANIA SilverStar ULTRA headlights are “plug and play” replacement bulbs that can be installed as easily as standard halogen bulbs. They really were- we had issues with a battery bolt, otherwise they would have been in in under 20 minutes! Check their website to see which model you need for your car!
  5. More for your Money- SilverStar ULTRA headlights have a suggested retail price of $49.99 USD (but can be found online on sale for $39.95) for a pair, and are available at automotive retailers and mass merchants nationwide. SO in these days of budgeting, getting new headlight bulbs may be a super way to upgrade your older car at a minimum price, AND make it safer for you to drive (especially if you have teenagers driving or car!). I can;t recommend them enough- we're going to be switching to them in ALL our cars!

Here are some safety tips to help you stay safer on the road:

  • Change your headlights in pairs, before they burn out. Most headlights dim over time. Headlights should be replaced every other year for the brightest light.
  • Upgrade to high performance halogen like SYLVANIA SilverStar Ultra. Studies have shown that whiter halogen can improve your reaction time, increase your nighttime visibility and give you better roadside viewing.(I can testify that they DO all of that and more!)
  • Check your headlight alignment. Mis-aimed headlights can be distracting and dangerous. Ask your auto service technician to align them for you.
  • Clean your headlights regularly. Wash your headlights when you wash your windshield. You’ll see better and help prevent glare.
  • Make sure all your vehicle lights are working. Have a friend turn on your headlights and signal lights while you walk around the outside of your vehicle.
