In honor of Disney's The Princess and the Frog being released tomorrow, I decided that the adults needed their own Frog prince story, so waala:

Synopsis:

Holly Bishop is still reeling from the beating life has given her. After the devastating break-up with the gorgeous and smart Jean-Marc - who was supposed to be the Prince Charming she was to spend the rest of her life with - she is struggling to accept that she is already divorced at 25. Holly moves to San Francisco, where she knows no one, and takes a job as an event planner. Her boss, Olivia, is model-thin and confident, everything Holly is not, and Olivia becomes so concerned about Holly's despondency and lack of a social life that she takes her under her wing, if you want to call it that, by accosting her one day and telling her she must either do something about her personal life or think about getting another job. Holly has little choice but to join Olivia and her friends for drinks out. Although the night is somewhat uneventful and humiliating, it does show Holly that it's time to take control of her life.

Slowly Holly rejoins the land of the living. She she makes her way through the ups and downs of shedding some weight, while dating an ogre or two, but still makes depressing late-night calls to her ex, but  at least she is getting out there, as her boss demanded! Holly decides to throw herself into helping plan a charity event that benefits hospice patients, which the owner of the company supports. The only problem is that Olivia doesn't know what she is doing, and if she finds out.. there will most likely be hell to pay - perhaps even her job. Then her big event looms, and in spite of all her hard work, no one shows up. Aghast, Holly realizes that she's been sabotaged. But Holly doesn't give up, even when the going gets extremely tough. At the same time, she learns that she isn't quite ready to give up on herself yet.
 
This story is VERY endearing and charming! I read about 80% in one sitting, but was too tired to finish it! You can't help but cheer Holly on and hope everything works out in the end for her! i was surprised that Porter had recently crossed over into the chick lit genre from romance. The book is so true to life and offers wonderful insight into the struggle of a newly-divorced woman, having to let go of all her longed for dreams, and trying to pick up the pieces of her life. The writing in this book flows seamlessly from one scene to the next, and Holly is such an interesting, slightly flawed yet likeable character that one will feel they are there, with her. I am really really shocked that this book wasn't picked up for a movie and was not a bestseller (I got it in the $7 Barnes and Noble clearance sale!)!

So how about it? Ready for a 'Reality Disney' read for Mom??????
