Mailbox Tuesday: Product Review and Giveaway: Pantene Hair Care Challenge

As you know, I'm all for trying to find new products that work really well on my hair and CONTROL the frizzies with the severe humidity we have here in the South!

Recently I was sent samples of Pantene's new Customized Hair Solutions from Vocal Point AND from Pantene themselves! Luckily they sent me different types to try, so I had a mini comparison test ready made! I took the same test questions, but because I have multiple issues I got sent different blends!

First up was Medium-Thick Hair Solutions Frizzy to Smooth shampoo and conditioner. First off I have to say i LOVE that they send travel size bottles! It gives you multiple times to use it to really see if you like it! Medium to thick hair’s complex structure absorbs up to 40% more moisture from the air than fine hair, due to having twice the amount of cells as fine hair. Humidity can penetrate these cells, creating frizzy, unruly hair- no arguing there! The collection minimizes frizz by smoothing the hair (they contain an advanced guar substance, which helps reduce friction and smooth out the cuticle edges. Micro-smoothers help prevent frizz from forming, so smoothness lasts all day. ) , while stylers and treatments are available to help align strands, provide hold, and maintain smoothness. 


I LOVE THIS BLEND!!! Seriously, after 3 uses I tried something else and I could IMMEDIATELY tell the difference when it started drying- it was like all the air was being absorbed in my hair without it! I've always loved the clean, soft feel and light smell that Pantene has, but when you add this smoothing complex, it is now my go-to shampoo and conditioner for summer!

The second blend I was sent was the Color Hair Solutions line.  As I color my hair, this was a no-brainer! Pantene’s research shows that oxidative coloring changes hair at the structural level, causing the surface of the hair fibers to become uneven and the protective, water-repelling layer of the hair fiber to disintegrate. Without the protective layer, the hair fiber is prone to micro-scarring and damage, which changes the way it interacts with light and leads to a dull appearance.Pantene’s color solutions are designed to help give color-treated hair a new protective outer layer, while gently cleansing to remove dulling residue and build-up, leaving color-treated hair shiny and vibrant.


I have to admit I colored my hair right before I received these samples in, so it has been a good time to test them both! I ended up alternating between the 2 and I have to admit I am seeing less damage and my color is lasting LONGER while using this formula. Because it is so close to the Frizzy to Smooth in how it works, they work well being alternated. I did find that my hair wasn't AS smooth when I used the color shampoo/conditioner by themselves. I will definitely switch to this formula for the winter months to protect my color and hair, when frizz isn't a problem!


I noticed that Walgreens has the SAME size samples in their beauty departments for only $1.99. I think that's a great buy to test the shampoo and conditioner to see if you like it, versus paying over $4 a bottle (each) and then finding out you don't like either one after 3 shampoos (been there and have a drawer full of those t-shirts, you? Uh huh-thought so!).

I was so impressed with the Frizzy to Smooth line, that I went ahead and bought the Straghten to Smooth Creme. I've found that when I use it after shampooing with the Color hair line, I get pretty much the SAME effect as if I had used the Frizzy to Smooth line instead.


I also like that I can use it on dry hair to help control frizzies. I found that is I wet my hands, but a dollop on my hands, and then work thru my hair that I get a better result on 'dry' hair- I think it needs just the touch of wetness to truly 'set' it. It has a light feel and you don't feel like you have to go wash your hands before you can touch anything! I also love the push pump top- SO easy when your hands are wet or when you're half asleep in the morning! I hate 'tubes', you always seem to wait creme that way!
