Bullseye BBQ has been out family's BBQ sauce just about since it came out when I was in High School- that's over 25 years for you folk not in the know! A third generation is now hooked on it as well, as darling daughter insists on it when shopping- saying it's the ONLY BBQ sauce we buy!
Recently Bulleye came out with FOUR Regional flavors of BBQ Sauce:
Now we LOVE the regular and hickory sweet sauces, so when the chance came up to try a couple of the new sauces, we thought ok, why not?
We were sent sample packets of the Kansas City and Texas sauces. We had some super sirloin steaks this weekend, so it seemed like a match made in heaven! Dad, being the master griller (the man can do some MEAN BBQ !) decided that there wasn't enough in the sample PACKETS (UGH- pet peeve of mine, but I guess they figured 1 packet was enough for a small steak...) to go around so he made one steak with both sauces - so we had out own sweet and spicy steak sample!
The KC Sauce was wonderful, but a little too sweet for most of us- we like the bolder flavor from the regular sauce. The TX sauce on the other hand was WHOA NELLY when it came to the pepper! Woowee, you guys in Texas like it SPICY! Now when the 2 came together and mixed in the middle? MUCH better= like peppery hickory sweet sauce. Not bad, not what we would normally want, but livable!
Overall the consensus was to stick with the regular sauce. BUT we do want to try the Memphis style on beef and Carolina on chicken or pork before we say nay to those 2 flavors. It was a great idea for Bulls Eye (Kraft Foods) to send out trial sizes of the BBQ sauce, as it was a definite money saver!
If you really like any of these new flavors, I would suggest stocking up, as Bullseye has a bad habit of trying out new flavorings, and dumping the old ones (Wikipedia shows that these make 16-20 on versions!) !
