We want our kids to grown up (mostly-LOL) and be strong and independent creatures, who do not need MOM to survive, but.....
is there really anything better to a Mom's heart than to hear a sick child (no matter what their age) cry out for MOM to be with them and administer to their needs (knowing inherently that Dr. Mom can solve all), and want to cuddle up with MOM?
You know the odds of you coming down with whatever the infection is will magnify 100 fold, but NOTHING can keep you from having that closeness. Even if it is for only one night....
because they always seem to get better overnight and become independent all over again.
