Toddler Crafts: Inside Garden Egg Craft

Daughter was bored and wanted to do something 'different' this past week, so I thought and came up with making an inside garden out of the recently vacated egg carton!

I forgot to take pix along the way, so I'm going to explain the steps!

1. Go thru coloring books and pull out pictures of flowers, or shapes that can be used to make flowers. You can get really creative here! And/or you can take stickers of flowers and put on nice colored construction paper and use them.

2. Have child color said pages and then cut out the flowers/shapes. If you are using shapes you can either fold over, like we did, if they are in a row, or paste to construction paper and make more petal shapes.

3. Now take a pin or sharp scissor point and make a hole at the bottom of your flowers, wide enough to fit a pipe cleaner. Cut pipe cleaners to the size you want for each flower- if you vary the lengths, it will make it look more natural. We used longer lengths for bird and butterflies as well, so they would look more liek flying thru garden, and shorter ones for bugs! Pull pipe cleaners thru and fold over.

4. Now cut holes in your egg peaks. Put 'flowers' into holes, turn over and make an 'U' in bottom of pipe cleaner, to keep them from pulling out of their holes. You can decorate garden with some stickers. or if you want you can paint your egg carton base before you start!

5. Now watch child scream in joy at her garden and tell EVERYBODY that comes in that she grew a garden inside. (daughter had gotten creative and pushed down some of the flowers, so she can pull them up every day and she can pretend them that they really are growing!)
