The samples we were sent:
1. ALMOND RAISIN BAR-
Ingredients: Sesame Seeds, Raisins, Agave Syrup, Sunflower Seeds, Almonds, Rice Syrup, Crisp Brown Rice, Pumpkin Seeds.
As you can see from the picture below the fruits and nuts in this bar are very well preserved and looked like they just got picked! Due to the cold-processing, they also TASTE like they just got picked. I love the combo of ingredients, as did kiddo.
HOWEVER, I'm old school- I grew up on granola bars and trail mix (thanks Mom, who was "Organic" when it was called "Hippie"!), and kiddo has the same type of sweet tooth, and we both founds these bars to be TOO sweet! Between the agave and rice syrup they are VERY sweet. I found myself picking out the fruit and nuts and wiping as much of the coating off, and then enjoying the ingredients more. Kiddo also liked the brown rice versus oats or crispies! If your kids will only eat healthy if it's sweet, then these are the bars for you!
2. CRANBERRY CRUNCH BAR:
Ingredients: Peanuts, Raisins, Sesame Seeds, Agave Syrup, Almonds, Rice Syrup, Crisp Brown Rice, Cranberries (Cranberries, Apple Juice Concentrate, Sunflower Oil, Pumpkin Seeds, Cranberry Flavor.)
Kiddo had the same reaction to the cranberry bar, and she ADORES cranberries! She will eat Cheerios and Cranberries for breakfast AND snack everyday, if we let her! So if she said 'no, too sweet', that's her take from eating normal dried cranberries. the cranberries in this bar are VERY big and require ALOT of chewing for a small child! BUT again, if your child likes sweet cranberries, they'll like this bar!
3. ESPRESSO COFFEE BAR:
Ingredients: Sun Dried Raisins, Brazil Nuts, Cocoa Mass, Sunflower Seeds, Agave Syrup, Crisp Brown Rice, Walnuts, Brown Rice Syrup, Roasted Coffee Beans, Espresso Flavor.
I have to admit this was the bar I REALLY wanted to try- I am a coffee and espresso freak, as you well know! I do not add sugar to my coffee however, only cream. I will use flavored creams, but usually half what is a normal serving. If we are out at a coffee shop and I order a mocha and it is too sweet, it becomes hubby's (as he likes sugar in his coffee).
So I was disappointed that this bar like the other 2 contained so much agave and rice syrup! Obviously it is aimed at kids, not adult, so I really don't understand WHY it is so sweet. The roasted coffee beans and walnuts were YUMMY. The hint of espresso could have been more. I've not a fan of Brazilian nuts, but they were ok in this bar. BUT the raisins? Nope, not with coffee flavoring. The cranberries would have been better I think. BUT again, if you LIKE really sweetened coffee/espresso, you will like this bar.
All of these bars are very chewy, and I can see where they could be a great meal replacement, or protein snack, for adults. It would be great if they could offer them in Sweet and Not Very Sweet though! if you're not sure about the sweet, I would buy a bar and sample it first, before deciding these are right for you or your kids, as everyone's sweet likeness is different! But they are a healthy, organic bar to have around!
Disclosure: I received these bars, free of charge, from SW Public Relations, free of charge, for review purposes. No other compensation, monetary or other, was given. Nor was I told what to say about the products.
