In our house Sandra Boynton has been one of Kiddo's top 3 author's since she literally was an infant!
We bought Sandra's sets of small boxed books when Kiddo was a baby and started reading them to her. By the time she was 2 we had to read at LEAST one book from the set every night at bedtime! So when her new Amazing Cows book came in the mail, kiddo was so excited she could barely stand it. When she realized there were knock knock jokes (a new obsession) in it as well, well she was over the Moo-on (sorry-couldn't resist!).
Synopsis: A work of pure obsession, Amazing Cows celebrates cows and offbeat cowness with a miscellany of cow stories, cow poems, cow jokes, and other bovine ephemera. Along the way, expect lively guest appearances by ducks, pigs, and excessive numbers of chickens. There’s a song: "It Had to Be Moo." A game: "Find the Hidden Cows." Famous Barnyard Composers (surely you’ve heard of Wolfgang Amadeus Moozart and Johann Sebastian Bockbockbock). Knock-knock jokes, a cow myth, and an Amazing Cow comic-book adventure: "Trouble on Zebblor 7." Cow fashion. Cow Limericks. How to Speak Cow. Plus so much mooer
About the Author: Sandra Boynton has been a bestselling Workman author for 25 years. She's written the New York Times bestseller Chocolate: The Consuming Passion, the national (and New York Times) bestselling musical for the whole family, Philadelphia Chickens, the phenomenally successful Boynton on Board series (led by Barnyard Dance!), and the one-of-a-kind Grunt, the sublime collection of Pigoroian chant. All told, her books have over 15.3 million copies in print, a number that will already be out-of-date when you read this. She lives with her family in western Connecticut. Check out her fun website too!
Review: Amazing Cows is a wonderfully illustrated, full-color, 96 pages long, and fun book that kids and parents will both adore! AND it will be able to GROW with your child, like ALL of Sandra's books, as they are fun to be read from, then even more fun for kids when they can read them to themselves! Like all of Sandra's books they have the type of nonsense, humorously misleading, sly satire that tickles the funny bone and doesn't let go!
Kiddo adored this book and wants to read the WHOLE thing every night at bedtime! I seriously thought she was gonna HAVE a cow (pun intended!) when she heard the jokes the first time, as she got too giggling then laughing so hard! Any book that can make my daughter laugh that silly is a keeper for us! And it still makes her giggle and laugh, even after the 10th (or so) reading! The activities in it are fun and the jokes simple enough for kids to remember!
AND, you can also go to publisher's website and download the Kazoo song included in the book- 300 kazoos playing Bolero! It's different to say the least!
