Yeah, yeah, I know, lot's of rants this week, what can I say, I feel the need to vent....
One word: RESPONSIBILITY
When did we as a country decide that no one is responsible for their OWN actions?
Like many others I was horrified by the shootings in Arizona, and said prayers for the victims and the families, and was shocked by the tragedy of a standard meet n-greet held by all of our congresswomen and congressmen.
Today I am very happy that Congresswoman Giffords is in rehab and doing well, but I have to shake my head at the media and wonder where it all went wrong?
When I was in college taking Journalism, this was called ETHICS. Do they no longer teach that in Broadcast Journalism/ Journalism Writing?
Why did the media feel they had to start a blame game of different political pundits, INSTEAD of stating what was obvious-Jared Loughner shot people. No one held his hand, directed his gun, told him at the scene who to shoot, bought the ammo or gun for him, or made him drive to the rally.
HE did all that HIMSELF, therefore he was RESPONSIBLE. By HIMSELF.
As a blogger, I feel that I am a different type of Journalist- you read this blog because you WANT my opinion. If I were writing a blog say for my local newspaper, I would hold back the personal opinion and state facts only. So it irritates me to NO end that today's journalists have no moral ethics about HOW they report and how THEIR actions contribute to society's lack of responsibility for the INDIVIDUAL'S actions.
SIGH......
This is a problem that as parents we all have to face as well. We have to teach OUR children that THEIR actions are just that THEIR"S. No one else is to blame for what they do- there is always a choice to be made. We need to teach our kids to make intelligent choices, not blame others!
I don't often post comments other than on giveaways, but there are exceptions, this is one. Like you, I have found that less people take responsibility for their own actions and place blame on others.
ReplyDeleteIt's nobody else fault that the jerk chose to shoot, it was his decision and he alone should be held accountable.
It does bother me that the press jumps in and tries to lay fault with others as well, I find that to be very irresponsible.
@VickieB
ReplyDeleteThanks for jumping in Vicki! I just couldnt keep it to myself anymore- I was feeling SO aggravated about the whole thing!
You go, mama! I'm totally in agreement with you. I can't stand when people do not take responsibility for their actions.
ReplyDeleteI have not been following the AZ situation because I don't really listen to the news - mainly b/c whenever I do I get irritated! I heard recently that there was a car crash near us where an 18 year old slid out on the ice and the parents were blaming the county for not keeping the roads clear. I was like - are you SERIOUS? It's horrible a young person died but why was she out driving on the ice? We were stuck inside from Sunday to Friday because I was not going to risk my car, life and that of others to try to hit the road. Ugh, sorry for the long vent!
