Recipe Weekend/ Product Review: Wholly Wholesome Graham Cracker Pie Shell

This past week we were introduced to a new brand of pie shells,  Wholly Wholesome!

I had heard about them, but we had never tried them, so I was thrilled when we were offered the opportunity to review them!

Our first foray was the Wholly Wholesome graham cracker crust, which needs no baking or preparation. You simply fill them with your favorite ingredients, such as ice cream, chocolate mousse or key lime filling, and serve them! The shell is very healthy for you! It is made with whole WHEAT flour, unbleached wheat flour, organic cane sugar, organic palm and safflower oils and molasses. Yup, WHOLESOME is the key! Now I know what you're gonna say- oh no, it's gonna taste bad.

Well guess what? We all PREFERRED the Wholly Wholesome shell over ALL other ones we have used before! Not only did it taste great, it wasn't hard packed- you know what I mean- you press down with your fork and you have to 'crack' the crust in order to get a bite. Not with Wholly Wholesome! When you press down with your fork, the crust is tender and crumbles, giving you a perfect graham cracker crust in every bite! Even after 2 days in the fridge, the shell is perfect!

Each crust has recipes on the back of the label, put we already had fresh strawberries, so we decided to use an old family recipe for Strawberry Pie. (I forgot to take a pix when I finished the pie! SORRY!)

Easy as Pie Strawberry pie

Ingredients:
2/3 cup boiling water
1 pkg. (4-serving size) Strawberry Flavor Gelatin
Ice cubes
1/2 cup cold water
2 cups thawed frozen Whipped Topping
8 strawberries, finely chopped
1 Graham Cracker Pie Crust (6 oz.)

Directions:
1. Stir boiling water into dry gelatin mix in large bowl at least 2 min. until completely dissolved.
2. Add enough ice cubes to cold water to increase the 2/3 cp measure  to 1 cup.
3. Add to ice water to gelatin mix; stir until ice is completely melted.
4. Add thawed whip topping; stir with wire whisk until well blended.
5. Stir in strawberries. Refrigerate 1 hour or until mixture is thick and will mound. Spoon into crust.
6. Chill at least 4 hours more,or overnight. Top with additional whipped topping and fresh strawberries, if desired. Store any leftovers in refrigerator.

Note: we overflowed the smaller shell, and had a bowl of filling left. Had I been serving it right away, and able to skip putting the lid on the pie, I could have put it all on the pie and it would have been about an inch higher!

We LOVE Wholly Wholesome! Stay tuned tomorrow for our review of the Chocolate Pie crust and then every weekend in March for more goodness featuring Wholly Wholesome pie shells!
