Mom was looking for a couple of books to read, and I had alot (!!) so she picked out this one and loved it, and was quite happy to write up a review for me!
Synopsis: When life gives you lemons, call your best girlfriends and whip up some
lemon martinis. Such is the mantra for the Ladies' Society for the
Conservation of Martinis, which was established after one fateful PTA
meeting, when four young mothers-Lynne, Mary Kay, Beth, and Carol-
discovered they had more in common than they ever thought possible.
Meeting once a month, the women would share laughs and secrets and toast
to their blossoming friendship with a clink of their sacred martini
glasses. The Society was their salvation, their refuge, but when
life-shattering circumstances force the group to dissolve, their
friendship is never quite the same...until two years later, when a
tragic event puts the Society back in session.
When Lynne
passes away suddenly, she leaves behind one simple request: that her old
friends sort through her belongings. Reluctantly, the women reunite to
rummage through her closets. There's nothing remarkable; no kinky sex
toys, no embarrassing diary. But buried deep within Lynne's lingerie
drawer is an envelope addressed to the Society. And inside they find a
letter that reveals a shocking secret and a final wish that will send
the women on a life-changing journey...proving that nothing is more
powerful than the will of a true girlfriend and a good, strong martini.
Review: This is the perfect quick and easy read, curled up by the fireplace, or on the swing on the front porch. The book will remind you of your childhood friends and the bonds of friendship of adult friends from college, when you got married, etc. Even in a battle against a deadly disease this group of friends can't be broken apart.
Even after death, the journey they take will lead them to new discoveries about themselves and each other. What they have lost will bring them closer together. The author leads you into their tale with their love of a certain drink (like Sex and the City's Cosmo), the Martini (she even gives you their perfect recipe for it!).
Every now and then we all have a moment with our friends and completely let go and tell each other everything, dance in the table sing to the top of our lungs. These moments we all hold dear to our hearts, Even if we live far away from one another, when we think about these times, they will brings smiles to our faces. The author made me remember such times with my dear friends, and I smiled alot while reading the book!
This is another book that I can definitely see a Lifetime movie coming from, complete with the '80s music soundtrack, and Joan Jett belting out "I Love Rock n Roll'. So pour yourself a martini, sit down with this book, and salute your friendships!
Before
writing books, Sarah was a newspaper reporter for twenty years at The
Cleveland Plain Dealer and The Home News in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She's married to Charles, an attorney, and they live outside Montpelier,
Vermont, with their son and two intellectually challenged dogs and two
evil cats. Their daughter is entering her freshman year at Bryn Mawr
College. Sarah graduated from Tufts University and almost got a
master's degree in English from Case Western Reserve University, but
then life happened. (Long story there....)
