“The updated edition is so jam-packed with new and useful information that it is a must-have even if you bought last year’s edition.”

About one out of every 110 children has an autism spectrum disorder according to the latest CDC data. Between 2002 and 2006, the prevalence increased by an average of fifty seven percent! It is estimated that nearly one million Americans have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. Parents raising these children often feel like they face more questions than answers. Published in time for Autism Awareness Month, Cutting-Edge Therapies for Autism 2011-2012 gives parents the information they need to help their children while helping the parents themselves cope with their situation.
Ken Siri, a freelance journalist and father of Alex, a teenage boy with autism, and Tony Lyons, a book publisher and father of Lina, an eight-year-old girl with autism, have committed to compiling all of the latest research, developments, and treatments to make the lives of other parents of children with autism that much easier. They are not doctors or therapists, but they love their kids and want to do what’s best for them, and help other parents do the same for their children. Having done the research for their children’s needs, they eagerly share the information with other parents who need it.
The first edition of Cutting-Edge Therapies for Autism, which was released last year, literally flew off of the shelves! This year, the book’s second installment of the annually updated series includes additional, groundbreaking information that will be of essential use to parents everywhere.
Cutting-Edge Therapies for Autism 2011-2012 includes explanations for the possible causes of autism and presents novel therapies, medications, and interventions through contributions from over eighty experts on a wide variety of models and research findings. Siri and Lyons have also introduced two special sections this year: one on technology-based interventions and the other on three drugs in the clinical pipeline that could change autism by treating not just its symptoms, but its underlying causes!
Readers of Cutting-Edge Therapies for Autism 2011-2012 will gain a wealth of knowledge and coping mechanisms to employ. Learn how animal-assisted therapy such as horseback riding advances developmental growth; art therapy encourages self expression; and play therapy teaches communication and environmental awareness. Music, speech, language, and even aquatic therapies are also explored.
Cutting-Edge Therapies for Autism 2011-2012 contains contributions from more than eighty experts on a variety of therapies, models, and multifaceted evaluation and treatment centers. Each contributor gives the reader a basic description of the topic, including its scientific rationale, development, risks, and benefits. Contributions include:
- Dr. James B. Adams on chelation
- Dr. Jeffrey Becker on vision therapy
- Dr. Jeff Bradstreet on gut biology
- Dr. Manuel Casanova on rTMS
- Mary Coyle on homotoxicology
- Dr. Georgia Davis on psych medications
- Dr. Allessio Fasano on probiotics
- Dr. Darin Ingels on immunotherapy
- Dr. James Jan on melatonin
- and many, many more!
“Ken and I both have children on the autism spectrum. We don’t have any financial connection to any organization, doctor, or therapist in this book. We conceived of the book as a way to learn more about ourselves in order to help our children.”
– Tony Lyons, co-author of Cutting-Edge Therapies for Autism 2011-2012
