crossmaker dvd

In this dvd, The Crossmakerdifferent See The Light artists, tackle the topic of Easter and Jesus' love for us, along with drawing, pastel and water color lessons! I'm going to review the dvd, section by section!
DVD Contents:
The Easter Story - Crossmaker  (16 minutes): Dominic, the son of a carpenter, finds himself drawn into the unforgettable trial of the man called Jesus. Share in this amazing adventure that takes Dominic from Christ’s crucifixion to a place of redemption, and a face-to-face meeting with the risen Christ.  See The Light chalk artist Gloria Kohlmann draws her stunning interpretation of the Easter story.
Review: this was a wonderful interpretation of the Easter story from a child's viewpoint. The chalk illustrations give the story a child's storybook feel as well.  It also teaches the moral of telling the truth will set you conscience at ease. When the tale is done the kids listening to the story expound on additional lessons learned as well. This section would be an excellent video for children's Sunday School classes, as it is aimed at children.

Art Lessons -

GLORY!  See The Light artist Heidi Shorts teaches the art of Creative Lettering (28 minutes)
Review: Heidi explains how the decoration of an letter can make a letter or word have more meaning, or emphasis it's meaning. She tackles the word GLORY in this lesson, as part of the resurrection story. This lesson calls for paper, #2 pencil, ruler, pencil sharpener, white artist eraser, colored pencils, bright neon colored pencils and a blacklight. She teaches using guidelines to keep your letting even and correctly spaced out. She uses a variation of the D'Nealian alphabet in the lesson. She teaches using serifs to help expand letters to show how easy it is to make great letters for whatever your need. She teaches simple design elements and how you can add them to make something special, as well. You can use the lessons to complete a drawing like hers, or make your own unique sketch. Here's mine, done with just a number 2 pencil, very quickly:

This lesson can easily be done by children, with some help.

He is Not Here! He is Risen! See the Light Master Art Teacher Pat Knepley leads budding young artists in a step-by step drawing lesson using chalk pastels. Plus, create your own black light reveal!(32 minutes)
ReviewThis lesson calls for non-white paper, canvas pencil, artist eraser, 12 pastels, flourescent pastels or pencils and a black light. She teaches you to draw a picture of the tomb and Jesus ascending. Her lessons are very simple to follow, and older teens will definitely be able to draw along with her. I did not have any pastels, so I could not give you an example on this one! Here's the promo, so you can see this one and the next lesson:

Three Crosses on a Hill See the Light’s Jim Pence gives a water color tutorial as young artists discover The Joy of Art(25 minutes)
ReviewThis is a mixed-media lesson that is for the more creative older kids and adults. This lesson calls for the basics of water colors-water, paper towels for blotting, water color paper, paintbrushes (round and foam brush) and water colors, along with pencil, artist eraser, flourescent yellow crayon, permament (no water based) markers (fine and broad tips) and blacklight. This is a good lesson on the basics of watercolor usage and using other media with it. You end up painting a hidden picture within a pictures of the 3 crosses on the hill at dawn. This would be an interesting technique for Easter cards!

Overall, the art lessons are very well done and allow for stopping, to catch up, if need be. I like how they teach art basics! if you have someone who likes to dable in drawing and painting, they'll like these lessons!

Bonus Features on the dvd include!
- Original contemporary music performed by Jan Roper and Kevin Dukes, while watching Gloria Kohlmann draw her remarkable art expression of the Easter story.
- Watch and Hear the Plan of Salvation, clearly and creatively presented as you have never seen it.(7 minutes)
- Hear See The Light chalk artist Gloria Kohlmann’s commentary as you watch the Easter scene being created.
- Meet the See The Light team.
This is a really interesting DVD and it would be perfect for Sunday School/teen groups to learn how to make new and different art pieces, and possibly use the techniques for Easter or Christmas play backdrops, brochures or cards!I highly recommend it and am thrilled to be able to offer one of my readers their own copy!
