Music Monday: CD Review and Giveaway: I Will Praise You by Rebecca St James

As you know, I have no objection to praise music, especially when  Kiddo wants to listen to it (oh so much better than another round of the Wiggles or Top 40, right?), so I was very interested in reviewing Rebecca St. James’ newest cd, “I Will Praise You”, her first studio project since 2005! I figured even if it was 'older' than suitable for Kiddo, it might work for Vacation Bible School and the teens, this summer. Yup, guess who got 'volunteered' for that supervisory/teaching position? Yeah... me!

Her new cd comes out tomorrow, 4/5/2011! AND she is hosting a very special LISTENING PARTY, where you can listen to the first three tracks, for FREE! Go check it out and then come back for the rest of my review. Go ahead, we'll wait for you to come back!

Rebecca St. James "I Will Praise You" is a new collection of worship songs she terms “ her most personal recording to date.” You can listen to her explaining more on her site.

"I Will Praise You" represents the latest steps in Rebecca’s life long journey towards the presence of God.It is an uplifting cd, full of praise and glory. Tracks include:

1. I Will Praise You (I think this should have been the first single! My fav song!)
2. You Never Let Go 
3. Shine Your Glory Down (the first single, my 3rd fav)
4. You Still Amaze Me 
5. In A Moment  (reminiscent of Cohen's "Allelulia", my 2nd fav on the cd)

6. The Kindness Of Our God  (Celtic influenced)
7. When The Stars Burn Down (Blessings And Honor) 
8. Almighty God    
9. You Hold Me Now 
10. You Make Everything Beautiful (Serenity prayer set to music)

You can definitely tell that this cd is about Rebecca, you can here her varied interests in different types of music on different songs, be it Celtic, Pure Praise, Top 40, even some Rock. If you have a pre-teen/teen daughter/niece/granddaughter who likes praise music, she will ADORE this cd. It sounds like something straight off the Pop charts, only instead of singing to a boyfriend, she is singing praise to God. AH, so much better than Lady Gaga, yes? PLUS, Rebecca is an artist for young women to model themselves on!

 

Australian born Rececca is more than just a very talented, award winning songwriter. She is a passionate spokesperson for the child relief work of Compassion International, more than 30,000 of the world’s neediest children have found sponsorship through her worldwide concerts. In addition to music, Rebecca is a best selling author, with more than a half dozen books to her credit—including Wait For Me and her latest book, Pure. Rebecca’s interests in acting have found her involved in several national film productions,including the recent tv movie Sarah's Choice, touring in a lead role as Mary Magdalene in the national company of the rock opera musical, !Hero, and voicing the character of ‘Hope The Angel’ in VeggieTales’ best selling DVD production, The Easter Carol. AHA- you knew you knew her voice, didn't you?


This is definitely one of those cds that you can put in the car for family trips and everybody from kids,to teens, to adults will be happy with and singing along after the third song! I definitely recommend it!
