Product Review: Funky Monkey Fruit Snacks

We've had some problems with Kiddo and tantrums and one of the things we determined was that she was getting too much sugar in her diet while at school. School lunches may be 'healthy', but there are hidden sugars in juice and ketchup, for 2, that really add up. So one of the things we are doing is drastically reducing Kiddo's sugar intake over the Summer to see if it helps (see book review later today for more on that topic).

So I was really happy that we had recently been contacted about trying the Funky Monkey Freeze Dried snacks, to see if we could find a fun new way for her to eat her fruit and enjoy it.

Funky Monkey snacks include full slices and pieces of fruit in large or to-go size packages. Each ounce of Funky Monkey Snacks contains 3 servings of real fruit and contains no added sugar or sweeteners and no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. They also contain no gluten, wheat, dairy, peanut and tree nuts, meaning they are an excellent option for people with food allergies or celiac disease. So they are 100% natural!

And as they are in small bags, they are the perfect summer snacks to bring with you to the park or beach!

Kiddo adores her dried cranberries, cherries and raisins, so I had high hopes for her liking the Funky Monkey snacks. We were sent 3 flavors to try out:
funky monkey applemon
  •  Applmon- freeze dried apples and organic cinammon - Kiddo likes apples ALOT, and she gave this one a thumb up, but said she preferred a regular apple. To me there was too much cinammon than what she is probably used to.
  •  Bananamon-freeze dried bananas and organic cinammon- this was the least favorite of Kiddo's. She isn't a huge banana fan to begin with. I shared her opinion after tasting them- but then I've never liked freeze dried bananas at all!
  • Carnaval Mix- freeze dried organic bananas, pineapple, apple and papaya. Not surprisingly, this was Kiddo's favorite. She likes dried pineapple and papaya (yeah I know!). It might not be my preferred snack of choice, but taking out the bananas and I could Deal with it!

The snacks also come in JiveALime (pineapple and lime),   MangOJ (mango and orange juice),  Pink Pineapple (pineapple and guava) and  Purple Funk (banana and acai).

The bags contain 9g of sugar per bag, which is supposed to be one serving. For Kiddo, the bags are TWO servings, so 4g of sugar is not bad at all! I will definitely keep these on the list for products to take with us on field trips and adventures over the Summer!

They are available at Target, Albertsons, Safeway and Whole Foods, plus other grocery stores around the country. Plus you can order them online!
