Book Review: What Was God Thinking? by Sandy Alemian

Photobucket

Our pastor had a wonderful sermon this past weekend. He spoke about the Holy Spirit being the Breath of God and our encouragement to step outside out 'safety zones'. When we suddenly feel the urge/need to do something we would not normally do, that is the holy spirit guiding us. I thought about that as I finished this book and thought "Huh!". In a nutshell, it is what this book is about- letting go of our learned perceptions and beliefs and accepting what comes to us. Read on!

Synopsis:  It began with one question...A response came...An intimate dialog followed.
No concern was too silly. No challenge was too big. This engaging book captures it all.

What was God thinking?! picks up a dialog that Sandy began in her first book, Congratulations... It's an Angel, where she shared the clarity and understanding she received after asking heartfelt questions of God, following the loss of her one month old daughter.

The foundation of her work, included in this book,  is based on what she calls the universal truths:
  1. We are co-creating this life based on our energy vibration.
  2. There is a gift held within every experience.
  3. We are not alone here.
  4. Death is not the end.
  5. Love never dies.
  6. Life/God is for you.

About the Author: In 1994, Sandy experienced a parent’s worst nightmare when her infant daughter Talia died at 31 days old. From the darkness of Talia’s death, a spark of light was found…the reawakening to a gift – that of communicating with God, Angels, and Spirit. Today, Sandy is a nationally known, sought after Inspirational Speaker.  Whether she is in front of an audience of 1 or 1000, she speaks from her heart and soul.  Check out her web page for more info: http://sandyalemian.com

Review: It takes a leap of faith to accept that Sandy is hearing from God the same as you would from your best friend on the phone, and that God can be pretty sarcastic! Sandy has conversations involving her therapy session challenges, personal relationships, fear, truth and self-esteem. Much of what she presents is common sense, but some of it might hit home with readers in a very profound way. Some examples:

1. There is nothing that God will not forgive us for, but many things WE won't forgive ourselves for. When you think that is not true, you become desperate (de-spirited)- without God. When you LET GO of old frustrations, hurts, anger and habits, you are the one holding judgement upon yourself, not God. When you can open your mind and heart to healing, you can come back to being in-spirited (inspired).
2. When one constantly asks God WHY, you get nowhere. When we are asking WHY, it is really What's Hurting You- why are you in pain? Was there things undone between you and the person who died? Have you not done everything in your power to remove yourself from a bad situation> Have you not trusted God?
3. We never think to ASK God for help unless there is a major problem, or we feel we have failed/let people down. If we were to go to God first and seek direction, how much farther along would we be?
4. When we love ourselves, and do NOT hold judgement against ourselves, then we will find the relationship, abundance, peace we seek. When WE are ready they will come to us.
5. People pray for 2 reasons: sacredness and scaredness. When we pray for another's health or well-being, that is from sacredness (and the highest prayer we can do). We are in effect saying "I love you" and putting powerful energy out to the heavens- and that is when people are healed, have life changing moments. But when we pray for a certain outcome, or not to feel a certain way, that is out of scaredness. It is prayer without true focus on the underlying problem, and without that, they can not be answered.
6. Why don't WE hear the voice of God? Because we are so busy, with the rushing, doing, trappings of our world that we don't listen. We need to stop, let things be, if they get done, they get done. And then we will hear god's voice.

I found myself nodding a WHOLE lot and wondering if our pastor had read this book recently, as his sermons since April have focused on many of the truths that Sandy has presented in this book! Or it's the whole psychic convergence idea. Sandy would probably say it was just everyone hearing what God has been saying to us all the whole time!

Whether you believe God really had these conversations with Sandy, or not, the book is worthwhile to read to remind ourselves what IS important- loving one another AND ourselves, and learning to FORGIVE.  I highly recommend it to everyone!
