Guest Post: Last Minute Father’s Day Gifts on a Budget

Father’s Day is here (!!)  and we all want to honor our dad with a great gift. You may not be able to afford an expensive gift because of any number of reasons but I have some gift ideas that are free or less expensive that dad will love. Think about dad’s hobbies and interests. Think of ways you could help around the house. Dad’s love homemade meals, you can make his favorite! 

Give the gift of time to your dad this Father’s Day. Does your dad spend hours working in the yard or on projects around the house? Make a certificate relieving dad of mowing the lawn, weed eating, taking out the trash for a week, washing the car or any other chore dad does.

 If your a busy family with little time together at home, plan your dad’s favorite homemade meal and surprise him. Top off this special dinner with dad’s favorite dessert. He will enjoy the meal but also the extra time with the family he loves.

 Take your child rock hunting, explaining that this will be a special rock for daddy. Clean the rock and let your child paint or draw on the rock. Don’t forget to write the year on the rock. This ordinary rock has been turned into a memorable paperweight.

Make dad a CD of his favorite songs. Put some of his favorite songs on a CD so he doesn’t have to continuously change CD’s.

 Take a picture of the kids dressed up, participating in a family activity or hold a sign with a special message just for dad. Put the picture in an inexpensive frame for dad to put at his desk at home or at the office. Younger children could draw a picture for dad and frame it also.

 If your dad is an avid movie watcher, give him one of his favorite movies. You can find many movies for less than $10.00. You can also give him the gift of a new release with tickets to a matinee, which are usually a good bit cheaper.

 Books are a great gift to give dad. Whether he reads fiction, non-fiction, biographies, history or self help there is a book for him. Don’t forget about magazines, they are a gift that keep giving throughout the year. 

Treat your dad right with his favorite candy. Put together a basket or candy jar with dad’s favorite sweets. You can also make dad his favorite cookies. Take dad to a local sports venue. Most local sports are less expensive than professional sporting events and just as much fun. Local sporting events offer a more intimate experience.

 Giving dad a gift on a budget can still be fun and memorable for dad. You could make this his best Father’s Day ever!
