Guest Post: Make Your Own Healthy and Delicious Popsicles- We Did!

popsicles

My kids love popsicles during the summer months, and who am I to pretend that I don’t as well. Cold, sweet, sticky treats are perfect when it is just too hot to do anything else. Unfortunately, popsicles are full of corn syrup (aka LOTS of sugar), dyes, and very little else.

Instead of buying a box at the store, try making your own healthy and delicious popsicles at home!

Making popsicles can be really easy and really healthy. Just mix together real fruit and real fruit juice, freeze and serve. And unlike the popsicles you buy from the store, you can make your own flavors that your entire family will love. Here’s a real secret: you can even add vegetables!

You can do this in many different ways to add another serving of fruits and vegetables without them knowing. Make pineapple-banana-kale popsicles, or apple-peach-carrot. What you create is only limited by what produce you can get. Those weird looking vegetables that your kids swore they would never eat? Try mixing a few slices into a mixed berry popsicle and see if they

Directions:
  1. In your blender toss together some berries, a cup of orange juice, and a handful of  fresh spinach leaves.
  2. Blend it all up, pour into ice cube trays or use popsicle molds such as those sold by Tovolo.
  3. Freeze the popsicles and serve.
They are delicous, healthy, and the kids will never even taste the spinach!

Popsicles are the classic summer treat for kids of all ages, but as most parents
know they are also classically unhealthy. Making your own posicles at home is a
great way to turn this into a healthy snack that you won’t mind handing out!

After eating these real pops, your kids may never want to go back to the store bought ones again!
