It's a Wiggles Birthday Party!

Ok, I am STILL trying to catch up on posts I was going to write when I was down  from the fall!

As I told you, we were able to take Kiddo to see The Wiggles live in concert this past Sunday!

wiggles outfit

As you can see, she had a cute outfit that made use of her new Fourth of July Tutu (thanks MK for a super super tutu!), a new Wiggles shirt and her Wiggles capris from last year (that luckily were WAY too big last year, but fit perfectly this year)! her new Monkey Toes Luv Bug Shoes may not have matched perfectly, but they were adorable and she loved them!

up close for wiggles
We had super seats (thanks again Grandma!)- 3rd row back and in the middle, so Kiddo was up close and personal with her fav TV stars! Kiddo was super psyched and just could NOT stand still while waiting to get into the show! We were early and able to avoid the HUGE crowd for the concession stand, and Kiddo got a program and t-shirt (as she pretty much had everything else Wiggle!).

wiggles bog red carFor somebody who was bouncing off the walls when we got there, she got REAL quiet and still when The Wiggles came out. I think she was just SO stunned to see them UP close that she had a 'star moment' and froze! Then she started to get into it, as they were singing her fav song-" Big Red Car".

wiggles anthonyI had read on Facebook (how else do we get updated info anymore? LOL) that one of the Wiggles, Jeff, was not going to be at the show, as he was having some sort of cardiac procedure (they hadn't advice what at that point). So while at the store the day before, Kiddo decided we needed to get him a get well card. Naturally it had to SING....sigh, thanks Hallmark! LOL. So we had the card with us, as I figured they would be picking them up and sending them off to Jeff.

They did have one of their back up dancers taking his place and after they introduced him Sam and Anthony explained that he had to have a Pacemaker installed, and were VERY thorough in explaining what that meant to the small kids (kuddos for being honest with them). THEN Anthony saw Kiddo had the card in her hand . Yup, guess who got called to the stage to bring it to him? My very un-shy child got star struck shy and could NOT stop grinning after she handed him the card (we got to see what her pre-teen years are going to look like-"he touched me"- followed by the "he said MY name"-after he did so to the whole crowd, smiled and thanked her. Yeah, she was a gonner!

wiggles wags
It took a song for her to come off the meeting-a-star high and by then Wags the Dog had come out. NOW she was psyched, cause she had brought a big bone for him (standard fare at Wiggles concerts), so again she got to go up to the stage with a couple of other kids and hand Wags DIRECTLY the bone! She was grinning from ear to ear upon her return to her seat (oh and Mom didn't have to go with her that time!). She really got into the concert at that point!

wiggles sam
As it is their 20th Anniversary/Birthday tour, they sang all their fan favorites. It was hilarious for me to hear "Dr. Knicklebocker" and hear Kiddo singing (ok, screaming)  'nine' in the same accent as the Wiggles were singing. Try as they might, her school has not been able to get her to loose the psuedo-Australian accent on that one word. Imagine- country accent from 1-8, then Australian for 9, then back to country to 18, then back to Australian for 19, then back to country again. It's very cute!

wiggles dorothy
Kiddo got another case of the 'oh mys" when she took her roses up to Dorothy the Dinosaur (another standard Wiggles concert practice) and got a wave from her, as Sam actually picked them up from her. Then he came down the aisle picking up flowers and smiled at her again. You could have just colored her done for. The first part of the concert was PURE adrenaline high for her. It was SO cute to watch and forsee concerts in the future with her!

wiggles anthony and feathersword

If you're familiar with an adrenaline rush, you know what came next. Yup, she crashed. The last 15-20 minutes she didn't want to dance or sing, just sit on my lap and enjoy the show. I understood and it was great to watch her amazement to see and hear the songs she loves so much performed by the Wiggles RIGHT in front of her! Brad did a great job filling in for Jeff, including having his 'sleeping' problem!
One of my fav shots of the day!

At the last third she had come out of it and went to the stage with the other kids to wave at the Wiggles and to see them up close. Then they let the confetti fly. I have never seen so many preschoolers enthralled with small pieces of paper before. They totally forgot about the Wiggles and concentrated on picking up the paper! (note: we ended with so much from Dad and Grandma, what landed in my bag and what Kiddo got, that she can decoupage a small vase for her room! Talk about a great souvenir item!),

When I asked Kiddo what the best part of the show had been afterwards, she said "Confetti!". Then she looked at me and said, "The WHOLE show". So apparently confetti does rate pretty high to a 4 year old!

This was our second Wiggles concert (we took Kiddo when she was 2) and as before, it was a wonderful family show and everyone was very friendly. The show was smaller than the last time, as it had been at an arena before and this time at the wonderful Mahla Jackson new theatre in New Orleans.Honestly, I really preferred the smaller scale as it was better for the kids. With less background dancers, Kiddo was more concentrated on the Wiggles themselves.

mahla fountainAnd for the record, Captain Feathersword looks NOTHING like his character when he's in plain clothes! We saw him, Brad (who played Jeff's part) and one of the other dancers, on the way to the car and had to do a double take, But we opted not to harass them for autographs and Kiddo was tired and hungry and wanted to go eat dinner.

All in all, it was VERY good day and Kiddo had to wear her new shirt to bed that night, and the next day. She was still over the moon and wanted us to drive to Texas (their next 2 stops) to see them again! While that was a "NO", it was great that she has such a wonderful time she wanted to go again! So YES, we highly recommend going to their show!
