Here's another book, perfect for Christmas and holiday giving!
Synopsis: The snow's piled up high and school's cancelled, so let's play outside and, of course, build a snowman! Now, what if you were left out in the cold snow all by yourself, like that poor snowman? Would you be mad? Of course you would!
Well, this snowman is out for revenge, especially after he sees those kids in the nice warm house, eating cookies and drinking hot chocolate! So, let's see what happens
About the Author: Mark
resides in a small, rural town located in Southern New York State, just South of Buffalo, New York. He, his wife Sandra and their two children, Cassandra and Alexander, live on a picturesque, turn-of-the-century farm complete with a charming old white farmhouse, quaint red barns and wooden pasture fences.
Mark is an Interior Structural Fire Fighter with a local Volunteer Fire Department, and is also a member of the Emergency Rescue Squad. The concept for this particular book began years ago, as an original bedtime story that he made up for his own children, which they always asked for and seemed to like, especially on those cold and snowy winter nights, so reminiscent of the Northeast.
About the Illustrator: In junior high school Mike learned that you could actually make money from creating artwork, as fellow classmates would pay him to create drawings for their class projects. After attending Art School, Mike spent twenty-five years in positions in the advertising departments of some of Canada's largest and oldest companies. He then became an award-winning web designer. As a firm believer in coincidence, when a man who had seen his website phoned him and asked if he would consider illustrating a children's book that he had written, he said, "Would I ever!". Hundreds of books later, Mike is still doing so!
Review: We live in Louisiana, so we have been lucky to get snow for the last couple of years, for at least one day, where Kiddo can go out and make small snowmen. Last year we made one out of white pumpkins (the fake ones), so she would have a better idea of what real one looked like. Now she's bugging us for a HUGE one (unless we go North, don't think that's gonna happen), so she was excited when she saw the cover of this book!
The story is very cute and Kiddo loved it! She identified with the snowman's emotions and loved it when the snowman took his "revenge". The colored illustrations are vibrant and fun and really draw kids into the story. It was adorable how Smythe put the words of the story INTO the illustrations- it made it a very unique story! Check out the author's website photo gallery for sample pix!
As soon as we finished, she was "reading" it back to me again and again! Yup, it's a keeper!
This would be a great book to have for Christmas vacation, and to have a theme day, if you have snow!
