Well it's OFFICIALLY Christmas season! And ya'll KNOW how I feel about Christmas music (for those knew to the blog, I wish we could listen to it year round- it's so joyful and puts you in an excellent mood! Ok, so maybe not in Summer, but you get the idea).
I have never heard of FFH, again because I have never been a big fan of 'Christian' music, but I have to admit they have a great sound, and this is a great album to have for church events, or when you have a lot of kids around, and want something 'safe'.
In fact, this is what the duo was aiming for. Jeromy Deibler *FFH founder), who produced the album, said, “We just feel blessed to be able to make this record and wanted to do the kind of Christmas music we like to listen to, something that’s not trendy but more of a classic style. For us Christmas is about remembering… slowing down to see what is important. And being reminded of the glorious impossible that was the birth of Christ. We hope this album reflects that desire and inspires others to do the same.”
I found the band/duo's story interesting, and wanted to share it with you before my review of the album!
About FFH:
"FFH was originally formed by Jeromy Deibler and Brian Smith in 1991, with Michael Boggs and Jennifer Deibler, Jeromy’s new bride, joining and rounding out the band. Working independently, FFH produced and released six albums, while touring. But when their first single cracked the Top 20 at Christian Adult Contemporary radio (eventually moving on to become the highest charting single by an independent artist in CCM history), major labels started taking notice. Essential Records signed the band, and multiple No.1 radio hits, Dove Award nominations, and approximately 2 million career album sales followed, giving rise to the ‘overnight success’ myth."
“In 2006 my wife and I had been married for 11 years. Ten of those years we had been in FFH, touring and traveling together,” Jeromy explains. “Over the course of those years we had our first child, Hutch. By the time we got to 2006, we were ready for something else, and our marriage was suffering. After much prayer, counsel and conversation with the other band members, the unanimous decision was made to take an indefinite break. The day after FFH played its last concert together, Jennifer and I were packing for Cape Town South Africa,” Jeromy says. “That literally was the first day of the rest of our lives.” "
"For the next six months the Deiblers ministered in a small South African church, relishing their opportunity to detox from the hectic world they had inhabited for the last decade. When we left South Africa to return to the States we were absolutely positive that we were never going back to FFH. We were ready for the next season in our life to begin, and we knew we were going to hit the ground running. But God was silent.Unwilling to move until they were sure of God’s direction, the Deiblers received both good news and bad news over the next several months: Jennifer was with child, and Jeromy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Their daughter Sadie-Clare was born amid his treatments, and thought they celebrated, God was still silent. Then in December of 2008,“It was time,” Jeromy states. “It was like the Lord had turned the lights off, and then He turned them back on.” FFH was reborn, but this time as an extension of Jeromy and Jennifer Deibler. FFH died and has been resurrected with renewed passion and a new story to tell."
Sorta like how the birth of Jesus and this holiday season gives us all a renewed passion for life, no?
BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE- I have to admit I'm prejudiced on this one- I don;t think anybody sings this song better than Vanessa Williams, but this is a nice version!
JINGLE BELL ROCK-lively and fun.
ONE SILENT NIGHT- a new song and perfectly done!
I’LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS- ok my 2nd fav Christmas song! This is a wonderful version.
THE BIRTHDAY OF A KING- another new song, about the Reason for the Season, and perfect for Sunday School classes!
O COME O COME EMMANUEL- my all time fav song- this is a very nice version!
WINTER WONDERLAND- another fun sing along!
GLORIOUS IMPOSSIBLE- the last new song, my fav of the 3 new songs!
O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM- classic song, Kiddo was singing along to it on the first listen!
HEAVEN AND NATURE SING- another Kiddo fav- I think all kids love to really VOCALIZE on this one!
As you can see, Kiddo enjoyed the album as much as I did. Of the things she picked up from me, I'm glad she loves Christmas music as much as I do!
You can listen to previews of the songs on Itunes. FFH doesn't have a video released yet for the album! Also check out the band's website and blog.
