SynopsisThis revolutionary new book debunks the myths long perpetrated by the diet and weight-loss industries. Are you tired of buying diet book after diet book? Have you tried every exercise class at your gym? Are you ready to toss the whole concept of diet and exercise out the window? It’s time to try something different.

Take The GREAT FAT FRAUD Quiz, to see if you know the myths or not:

1. Obesity is a disease that causes 400,000 deaths a year.

True or False

2. The definitions for “overweight” and “obese” were invented by:

A. The World Health Organization
B. The Weight Loss Industry
C. The National Institutes of Health
D. None of the above

3. Most people who yo-yo diet actually gain weight over time because:

A. They have no will power
B. Their body raises its set point to protect against all the famines it is experiencing
C. They eat too much
D. All of the above

4. The Weight Loss Industry has annual revenues of:

A. Less than $10 Billion
B. $10 – $25 Billion
C. $25-$50 Billion
D. More than $50 Billion

5. The only way to avoid regaining weight after a diet is to exercise (run, bike, swim, etc.) for an hour a day, most days of the week.

True or False

Answers: 1 = False 2 = B 3 = B 4 = D
5 = False

“Fad diets, weight loss surgical procedures, diet pills and The Biggest Losers are all part of daily life. This is our “‘Overweight States of America,’” he says. “Try to escape the weight loss industry for just one day, you’ll find it nearly impossible. Around every corner, on every channel, Facebook page, and Twitter feed you’ll find an ad promoting weight loss pills, ‘smart liposuction,’ gastric bypass surgery, and the newest in amazing plans to lose weight. We’ve gone from ‘America the Free’ to ‘America the Fat.’”

But just how much truth is there behind all the statistics being thrown about? Who decided what “obese” is anyway? Is thin really the only healthy option? In fact, does weight really have anything to do with health? These are just some of the questions t>hat came to Mike Schatzki as he was researching a speech he calls “The No Sweat Couch Potato Recovery Program.”  As he studied the research on weight loss, obesity and health, he was astounded and mesmerized by what he discovered:
 *    Fat is not a disease.
 *    There is no obesity epidemic.
 *    Most health problems attributed to weight are actually caused by something else.
 *    Definitions of “overweight” and “obese” were actually created by the weight loss industry.

Review: This was an eye opening book in many ways for me. I knew dieting, dieting pills, etc was big business, but I had no idea HOW BIG and profitable it has become! When you read this book and think how our processed foods are made, it really makes you wonder if 'dieting' is just part of a huge plan to make consumers spend more.  I liked how Mike gives you the links to every research paper at the back of the book (and other sources, they are also available on the book's website. But the book is an easy read, and reads very quickly.

What Mike suggests is what we have ALL heard before from nutritionists and our doctors- MOVE more. Get those 10,000 steps in daily and you will maintain, or loose weight. The simplicity is pretty much what our forefathers did, in their normal lives- they walked more, had more physical labor, spent more time outside. Common sense is common sense. Before you start a New Year's diet, check out this book. You'll save yourself a LOT of money and time.
