Book Review: The Surface Beneath by Dennis Quiles

Hubby's turn again! This sounded like a good action thriller for him, when it came in, and now I want to read it too!

Synopsis: When former naval intelligence officer Jack Steel accepts a safe deposit box key from the hands of dying FBI Special Agent Kathy Stevens, he had no idea where it might lead. Bitter and alone, he is consumed with the desire to avenge his mother’s assassination and his father’s tragic death. But the key, and the clues it reveals, soon help Jack realize that he would have to look back into his past to fully comprehend and fulfill his present. Before long, Jack discovers a 40-year-old secret and conspiracy. “The book accentuates how we all carry skeletons in our closets that sooner or later are bound to be disclosed,” Quiles says. “It reveals how the will of an individual fueled by the desire for vengeance will force him to challenge his own destiny by doing the right thing, while facing the most dangerous and devious enemies.”  Review: This action adventure plays host to many interesting characters. We have the hero who is Jack Steele a former government agent, Martha Harrison a "Little Italy" police dispatcher whom he is protecting and "good" FBI agents, police officers and even a Mafia boss, who is Jack's friend. On the "bad guys" side we have people who are corrupted by a oganization called Verum, which has many double agents within the US government, and agencies which include a US Senator, who is in line to be the next US president. the Senator hires a legendary assassin, named Clay Stanton, to take out Mr Steele and Ms. Harrison. He follows and stalks them across the country as the story progresses. The main object everyone is after is Marilyn Monroe's "red book" that has enough damaging information in it that she received from John & Robert Kennedy, that it could bring down the whole US government if released. The book way spirited away and hidden after her mysterious death.  This book is enjoyable and is a large paperback, with large print which is easy on the eyes!
