Not all the books I'll be sharing with you during these couple of weeks will be brand new ones, or ones we were sent for review.
Some, like this one, will be books that we have bought to read, and loved and want to share with all of you, as they are special to us, and we hope they will be to you as well!
Synopsis: In Santa, Are You For Real?, children will discover that there really was a Saint Nicholas. Through colorful illustrations and a heartwarming story, children - and parents - will learn who the real Saint Nick was, when he lived, and why he gave gifts. Most importantly, you'll see how the original Saint Nick set an example for us today by keeping Christ at the heart of Christmas.
Review: Kiddo was introduced to "St. Nicholas" two years ago, at our church sponsored event. She sees him as different from Santa, like his brother! So I was thrilled to find this book, based on a friend's recommendation, to help explain the story of how St. Nicholas developed into Santa.
It was very sweet to see only 2 days after we read it, and there was a short bit about St Nicholas on a TV show, and she was quick to pipe up that it wasn't right, that he gave money to 3 daughters of the same family first! She also was quick to note that giving items, of yours, away was like the Caillou Christmas show she had watched the same night, and that we needed to do that too. Yeah we can clean the toy bin out!
When you have a book that stays with your child, and teaches them about charity and the reason for the season at the same time, you know you have a winner! I'm glad we found this book, and I'm sure we will read it every year!
** Series note: Myra and Kurisu have a series of these books, including Easter Bunny, Are You For Real?, Halloween, Is It For Real?, and Thanksgiving, What Makes It Special? . I have NOT read them, and until I do, I am not PERSONALLY recommending them, but the reviews do seem positive on them, that I have read.
