Have You Tried Redbox?

Thanks to Smiley360, I recently got to try using Redmox Movie rentals!

redbox

You've seen the big red boxes everywhere-fronting pharmacies, discount stores, even grocery stores. You've heard it's easy to rent, and return, but have you given them a try?

I hadn't hadn't because I was supporting my local movie rental store, but I was offered a free trial, and I thought, ok, let's give it a whirl!

It was VERY simple to go to the Redbox website and put in my zip code and see what kiosk boxes were available. Once you select one, you can see what movies are available at THAT box. Plus, if that kiosk doesn't have the movie, you can click below it and see if it's available at any kiosks nearby. You can then click on the movie and RESERVE it, so it will be there when you get to the kiosk (plus if you reserve it, the first day is ONLY $1 to rent!). This is a pretty cool feature- it saves you running all over town trying to find a movie you want.Plus, when you reserve, you prepay, so all you do is put in the code, and wala, instant movie!

Course I kept getting a 'not available' on the movie I wanted (The Help), unless I ventured out of state, and I wasn't THAT inclined! I finally selected The King's Speech, as I had been wanting to see it. Now with my free promo code, I couldn't reserve it at the kiosk I wanted (Redbox doesn't allow you to use freebie codes to reserve videos- the only aggravating thing I found about the process), but I figured no one would jump on it, and I was right.

It was super easy to enter my promo code, enter my email address, scan a credit card (required, in case you don't return the dvd), get my dvd, and a receipt emailed to my email account! It took me all of 3 minutes to get my movie! How easy is that?

It was a great movie, but then I like Colin Firth alot anyways! And of course, being an anglophile, it's given, I'd love it! But it is a great historical movie, and I highly recommend it as well.

Returning the dvd was just as simple. You have til 9pm the day after your rent the movie, to return it (in my case, this gave me about 20 hours to have the dvd).Sign in, insert dvd, it's accepted. Done. Plus you can return it an ANY Redbox in the US. So if you're running late to work, you can take it with you and drop it in a box by your office during lunch break! What can be easier? If you don't return the dvd in time, you get charged a daily fee, up to 20 days, then they charge you $24 for the dvd ($60 for games). Which is what your local video store will do too!

Redbox also rents games, which I think is a superb idea- you can try it out before buying it. As most games are over $40 nowadays, this is a great budget conscious idea!

If you sign up for the text club, you get Freebie codes and specials every month (they also have them via email). Check out their Facebook page for specials too!

While I still support my local video store, I can see where Redbox makes it super duper easy, and easy on the wallet, to rent a movie for a day. So if you haven't given it a try, you might want to rethink it!

Disclosure / Disclaimer:  I received these movie, free of charge, for review purposes, as member of the Smiley360, from Redbox! No other compensation, monetary or in kind, has been received or implied for this post. Nor was I told how to post about it, or the Redbox program.

  1. I LOVE Redbox...I remember when it first came out, I ignored it because I thought it was a scam. Anyways, I haven't looked back since. I will actually go to a kiosk at midnight on Tuesday to get the new movies because its like having them for 2 days. I love when they're having a good week with 3 good new releases. I want to rent the new AND old Fright Night at the Redbox...hope the old one is still there.

    See you in 2012!

  2. Redbox is really easy to use and convenient since they are practically at every corner. I used Redbox all the time and would just pick up a movie when I was at the store. I recently started working for DISH Network and learned about the Blockbuster Movie Pass, which is an awesome deal. I have been with DISH as a subscriber for a very long time and since they are offering it free for 3 months I thought I would try it out. I can tell you that I absolutely love it! I get streaming, mail-in DVD’s, in-store exchanges, and many more things. After the 3 months I pay $10 a months and it is worth every penny since I watch movies all the time. I don’t have to leave the house to return the movie and there are no late fees. My favorite thing about it is that I get new releases 28 days before Redbox or Netflix. I still use Redbox every now and then when they have the free coupons, but I just love the Pass.
