New Year, New Self: Love, God and the Art of French Cooking by James Twyman Book Review and Giveaway

Up today is a small book that really packs a wallop in it's content. If you're at a crossroads in your beliefs, it might make a difference in how you think!

Review: This is really a self-realization journal meets cooking instruction seen through spiritual eyes book. Which means basically that you will take from it what you need to, what is applicable to your life at the moment when you read it. Now having said that, it is NOT unaccessable. In fact, I read it in 2 short sittings! Much like how Aftertaste  showed how cooking is a way of serving others while making yourself happy, Roger Dufau shows the same emphasis.


Reading this book to me, was like all the books/movies of the past 2 months coalescing into one book! It was like bits and pieces from each of them showed up in this book- very weird! I loved Roger's take on perfectionism- that we are afraid to not seek perfectionism, because our egos want us to prove something. God has nothing to prove, therefore he doesn't need us to be perfect-he loves us as we ARE, not the ideal we seek.


Another commentary that stuck with me, was Roger's take on service. I felt like he was channeling Joseph Campbell, when he said we all need to find the ONE thing that makes our hearts sing, that makes us want to get up every day- our bliss in short. When you find your niche/where your soul thrives, people will feel what you are doing and instinctively want it as well, and you will find your service in that feeling. our bliss ends up serving others, which is the ultimate goal, and what God wants from us. 


This was an interesting book, and I think it is worth reading if you feel at any type of crossroads!
