Every read a title of a book, look and the cover image, and go "nah", then search through other books, come back to the book you passed over, read it's description, and decide to give it a try after all, and then when you do you LOVE the book? This is one of those books for me!
Synopsis: Graciela "Ace" Jones is mad-mad at her best friend Lilly who cancels their annual trip to Panama City for mysterious reasons; at her boss Catherine for "riding her ass like a fat lady on a Rascal scooter;" at her friend Chloe's abusive husband; and especially at Mason McKenzie, the love of her life, who has shown up with a marriage proposal one year too late. Ace is never mad, though, at her near-constant companion, an adorable chiweenie dog named Buster Loo.
Review: Ok, let's settle this first. I have NO idea how Stephanie found about Suz and I, but apparently, she's been well aware of a WHOLE lot of activities, and conversations, that we've done/had! I swear I kept reading and saying to myself, oh oh- this is SO US! Which of course means this book is hysterical!

Ace's anger begins to dissipate as she takes matters into her own hands to take down Chloe's philandering husband-and to get to the bottom of a multitude of other scandals plaguing Bugtussle, Mississippi. Then, she starts to realize that maybe Mason deserves a second chance after all.
With a sharp and distinctive voice, Stephanie McAfee delivers a hilarious and fast-paced tale about Ace Jones and her two best friends-thick as thieves and tough as nails-navigating Southern small-town politics and prejudices, finding love, and standing up for each other all the way.

Secondly, Bugtussle DOES exist- it's in Pinola County in MS. BUT it could be ANY small Southern town. TRUST ME! If you live in one, you WILL recognize characters from your town.
Thirdly, I hate the title. PERIOD> I think it may keep people from reading this wonderful book about friendships and love! They may be like I was, and skip over the book after reading the title. From a PR perspective, I wish the editors would have urged a different title that reflected the story better. There is no 'diary' in the book. At all. So it's misleading in a way. The title "Ace Jones and the Bugtussle Escapades" for example, would have caught my eye and made me pick the bug up and read what it was about.
Fourthly- GO READ THIS BOOK- it is the perfect read for Spring- it will have you laughing and rolling on the floor from laughing SO much (please note, the author is NOT responsible for any clothing, bedding or furniture, that is ruined when you pee from laughing so much!). I haven't had a book make me laugh SO much in a long while. I kept shaking my head, nodding and thinking, oh yea, this is SO a Southern primer on living in small towns!
Read the excerpt at Amazon, and you will see exactly what I mean! Suz and I had literally had the same conversation about why do we text someone ans day 'call me'- why don't we just pick up the phone and call them? The author does a GREAT job of building characters and the locale. You will be rooting for the main characters the whole way through, booing at the villains, and happy with the ending! Finish the book and you'll be wanting a sequel too!
And NO, we're not giving this one away- it's gonna made the rounds of friends and family! But this book on your MUST READ list and get it pretty quick, just be prepared for an all nighter, as you will NOT want to put the book down once you start it!
