Book Review: NICE GIRLS DON'T BITE THEIR NEIGHBORS by Molly Harper

If you recall, Molly is the wonderful author of a series of Werewolf books that politely straddle the line between supernatural and chick lit!

I had not read any of her vampire series, until asked to review the latest book (this one). Boy was I missing out! I have found my vampire fix! Jane is the smart girl who gets the hunk, okay there's a few catches to that statement, but still... the woman quotes Jane Austen.. Hello!

So ready for some smart, intelligent chick lit?  Here ya go!

NICE GIRLS DON'T BITE THEIR NEIGHBORS cover
Synopsis:

Just as Jane Jameson’s unlife seems to be stabilizing, fate sinks its fangs firmly into her butt.

Despite her near-phobia of wedding planning, her no-frills nighttime nuptials to her sexy boyfriend, Gabriel, are coming along smoothly.  That is, until she turns a fatally wounded teenage acquaintance, and the Council pronounces her responsible for the newborn vamp until he can control his thirst.

Jane’s kitchen barely holds enough Faux Type O to satiate the cute teen’s appetite and maintain Gabriel’s jealous streak at a slow simmer.  As if keeping her hyperactive childe from sucking the blood out of the entire neighborhood isn’t enough to deal with, the persnickety ghost of Jane’s newly deceased grandma Ruthie has declared war on the fanged residents of River Oaks.  Suddenly choosing monogrammed cocktail napkins and a cake she can’t even eat seems downright relaxing in comparison.

Tensions inside the house are growing…and outside, a sinister force is aiming a stake straight for the center of Gabriel’s heart.  Most brides just have to worry about choosing the right dress, but Jane fears that, at this rate, she’ll never make it down the aisle for the wedding all nice girls dream of…

Review: Like I said above, this is SMART chick lit! I fell in LOVE with this series by the end of page one! Really a Southern vampire, in a small town, with the epitome of a Southern mama and family, who is smart and snarky, in a 'she could be your best friend' kind of way, dealing with the usual small town problems? And planning a wedding as 'the undead'? Now there are some new issues in the land of Bridezillas! Oh yeah, you are SO gonna love this series!

You can step in at any point in this series- this is actually book 4, with book 5 about to come out. The author gives you plenty of background info (which by the way she is consistent on, something some authors forget about and you get different info in different volumes), so that you have a sense of what has happened in Jane's life since she 'got turned.

I read this book in ONE sitting. I literally could NOT put it down. It is 'slam bam, thank you ma'am', rolicking of a good story that will have you laughing, guffawing and snickering as you read. There's a lot of head nodding if you're Southern too! Stay tuned, as I'll be reviewing books 1-3 this month as well. But do yourself a favor, pick up the entire set, cause once you read one, you are SO gonna HAVE to read them all! So get your beach/pool side books ready! You won't regret this series!
