Product Review and Giveaway: Beyond Coastal Sunscreen

Ah Summer....


It come on us LITERALLY overnight. We went from wearing sweatshirts for unseasonably cold 45 degree nights for 4 nights in a row, to waking up the next day with 85 degrees and about 90% humidity. Welcome to Summer in the South!


We like to be outdoors- Kiddo is even more of a tomboy than I was! Luckily for her, she doesn't have my redhead complexion and tans pretty easily. BUT being keenly aware of skin cancer through friends and family who have had to deal with it, we make sure she is covered in some sort of skin protection before she stays outside all day! Whether it's playing on her swingset, search the yard for slugs with her best friend, gardening, planting roses for Meme, fishing with Papa, or even just exploring, she get's covered!


We haven't gotten our pool up yet (see earlier cold spell mention for why!), but Kiddo is taking swim lessons this year and she is super excited she will be able to swim in the 'big kid pool', once we do. For now she's contented having gone to the beach on the Gulf Coast this past week! I know, life is rough right? But it was great timing, as it gave us a chance to really test out the products!


The South's humidity can give ANY sunscreen a run for the money! It doesn't matter if you're in Texas or Kentucky, but way down yonder in the swampland, it's even worse! You might as well wear "Sports" categorized sunscreen, cause even if you aren't active, if you're out in the humidity, you're gonna sweat and the sunscreen is gonna run! 


Which is why I was very happy to be selected to try products from Beyond Coastal! They have different all-natural formulas that can meet whatever need you have. We really like using products that are more natural or all-natural on Kiddo. It's just better for her all the way around! Plus, the products are ALL made in the USA! 

We were sent a great sample bag of different Beyond Coastal products to try:

• Active Face Stick SPF 30- perhaps the most interesting of the products. It looks like a mini-deoderant stick!  SPF 30+ effectively blocks 97% of sunburn-causing UVB rays and this stick application product is both sweat and water resistant! I liked how you don't have to use your hands to apply it, so you can keep them clean and dry (in case you are doing something else). Kiddo loved the novelty of it and applied to her face and nose with no problems. It rubs in clear, smells nice (sorta tropically, which makes sense since it has coconut oil, beeswax, and yerba mate) and seemed to last pretty well. It's also Gluten free, so it's safe for all kids! While on vacation, I found that it worked the BEST on me, versus fancy expensive face sunscreens. Who would have thought?
• Natural Clear Sunscreen SPF 30-  100% natural sunscreen provides shelter from UVA rays with zinc oxide. Unlike other zinc oxide sunscreens, the Natural Clear rubs into your skin clear and provides a physical block with broad spectrum protection. Beyond Coastal's Active sunscreens nourish, repair, and hydrate your skin with aloe vera, shea butter, and vitamins C and E. The Natural Clear also has grape seed extract, jojoba oil, and coconut oil! I liked how it is fragrance free (just smells clean), because for everyday wear, you don't want to show up at the office smelling like the beach!  And because it's clear, it's perfect for covering up tattoos, when out in the sun, to keep them from fading, without any heavy coating. Because it is in the white topped container, it was easy to recognize when grabbing it in the bag of all the sunscreens. I liked this one the best for me- it seemed to really cover well and keep my skin moisturized in the heat of the day,
• Active Sunscreen SPF 30-  Their sport sunscreen provides shelter from UVA rays with Avobenzone. It is also moisturizing, water resistant, and rubs in clear (starts out white).  Like the Clear Sunscreen, it has aloe vera, shea butter, and vitamins C and E to help nourish and moisturize your skin.  But it also has green tea extract, yerba mate, and B5 panthenol, so your skin really feels smooth and not that dried out feeling you can get from some sunscreens (especially the higher SPF ones!). The smell is very clean. It really absorbs into your skin very quickly, making it perfect for carrying to soccer and baseball games, and applying quickly. And because of the sport formula, it's perfect for protecting your skin from wind at games as well! This sunscreen did pretty good until we got some really rough waves, then it had to be reapplied, but it did pretty good against wind burn!
• Kids Active Sunscreen SPF 30- Easy to spot in it's purple and blue packaging , this is a 100% natural sunscreen with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Non greasy and gluten free, it's safe for babies, toddlers and kids! Kiddo liked having her own tube of sunscreen (as always!) and was eager to try it out. As a parent, I liked how it went on white, but then as it dried became clear. Thus I knew when it was absorbed (now it didn't happen very quickly, so spend time rubbing- it only took about 10 minutes all total) and when it was safe for Kiddo to head outside. because it did so quickly, I had less of a squiggly squirmy  kid trying to get away from me!
• Active Lip Balm- Citrus Grove-  SPF 15 lip balm with Avobenzone to protect your lips from harmful rays.In fact, SPF 15 effectively blocks 93% of UVB rays, providing everyday sun protection, as well moisture for them! It goes on clear, and is flavored with natural orange oil extract. Kiddo is not a huge orange person, so she it wasn't her cup of tea, so now it's in my purse. Woo hoo. Do you know how many times that happens? Right. 5 year old girls know they are allowed lip balms and not lipstick, so any one that comes in the house can usually be found in one of her many bags or desk drawer, and NOT in Mom's purse where it is supposed to be! In fact I like that it only has 11 ingredients, including coconut oil, beeswax, and yerba mate. How many of your lip products can you say that about? I actually tried it a day after I had slightly cracked my bottom lip and after one day of using it, it seemed like it helped to repair my lips almost as fast as 'medicated' balms do! It really seemed to work well with windy weather as well! The balms also come in Mint Leaf, Cherry Blossom and Vanilla Bean flavors!
