Last October I reviewed the first book in this new series, Thou Shall Kill,
and I am thrilled to be able to bring you this WONDERFUL new entry!
Synopsis: Franco Patrese has left Pittsburgh, and his painful past, to start a new life in New Orleans as an FBI agent. The first day on the job he attends an important political party and a beautiful woman starts hitting on him, or so he thinks; really she’s trying to warn him that something dark and twisted is going on and that she needs his help. Two days later, she shows up dead, her left leg cut off and a dead rattlesnake at her side. But she’s only the first in a string of dismembered victims.
As the bodies pile up, Patrese soon discovers a dark connection between the murders and Marie Laveau, who lived in New Orleans in the nineteenth century and styled herself the Voodoo Queen. The current Marie Laveau, who claims to be a reincarnation of the original, is the premier authority on voodoo and reveals to Patrese that the murders are ritualistic. Now Patrese finds himself seduced into her dark underworld, soon realizing that the truth is much darker and more twisted than he could ever imagine…
Review: If you liked the first Patrese book, you are gonna love this one! I read this book in 2 sittings, ONLY because I was so tired, otherwise I would have devoured it in one sitting!
Any author that can take the horrors and chaos of Hurricane Katrina, and it's effect on New Orleans, and actually put a new spin on the conspiracy theories and give his readers a rip roaring mystery that showcases the city, the good and the bad, automatically goes into my Top 5 list! Blake got so much right in his telling of Katrina and her aftermath, that is was a little jarring to see it in a fiction novel. The story is full of twists and false leads, that will have you turning the pages without stop, waiting to see what comes next!
This is definitely THE mystery of the Summer! Pick it up today and you'll agree too!
About the Author: Daniel Blake (actually author Boris Starling's psuedonym) graduated with a First from Cambridge and went on to be a journalist before turning to fiction writing full-time, including working at The Daily Telegraph and The Sun, in Britain. Blake is actually his psuedonym. He has worked for a corporation that specializes in kidnap negotiations and confidential investigations. He lives in Dorest, England, with his wife and children.
