Book Review: Nobody by Creston Mapes

Welcome to our third book review of Creston's books today!

This one veers away from the Everett Lester saga, and gives us a new lead characters to follow!

Synopsis

They said, "He's a nobody."
They were dead wrong.

When reporter Hudson Ambrose hears an early morning call on his police scanner about an injured person at a bus stop on Las Vegas Boulevard, he rushes to the scene to get the scoop.

His world is blown off its axis when he discovers a murdered homeless man with a bankbook in his pocket showing a balance of almost one million dollars. Should he wait for the police, knowing the case will get lost in reams of red tape, or swipe the bankbook and take the investigation--and perhaps a chunk of the money--into his own hands?

With sirens bearing down on the scene, Hudson makes an impulse decision that whisks him on a frantic search for answers, not only about the mysterious man in the black Converse high-tops, but about the lost soul lurking within himself.

This book was an American Christian Fiction Writers: "Book of the Month"!

Review:   This book diverts from Creston's previous 2 books and I think he was looking for something different I had a harder time getting into this book, as each chapter is told from the point of view from another character, and it's disconcerting somewhat. You get used to it, but you can't stop thinking that a regular narrative would have been better for the reader.

The characters, especially Hudson, are realistic and their Christianity/questions of faith ring true. The book takes you on a mystery ride as Hudson questions what to do, and then to a search for info on Chester, and then to solving and getting justice for his murder. The path itself is compelling and keeps the book moving. My only quibble was that it seemed to have more 'Christian' content than the first 2 books, and seemed more 'preachy' to me, so it just wasn't as compelling of a read to me, versus the first 2 books.

If you want something different, this book might be for you.

About the Author:  Creston says about this book: "My publisher sent me to Las Vegas for 3 days to research this book. I toured the soup kitchens, medical clinics and tent cities of the homeless, as well as the casinos and clubs. There are homeless people in Las Vegas - lots of them. Could one be an angel in disguise? Just ask Chester Holte.."
