The Roaring Twenties crumbles into the Great Depression, but Virginia Kingsley, New York’s toughest and most successful speakeasy owner, is doing just fine. Now that the world is falling apart, bootlegging is a flourishing business, and she’s queen of that castle.

Then her infant nephew is kidnapped. Her niece, Laura, and Laura’s philandering movie star husband, are devastated. The police have few leads, and speculation and rumors abound in the media circus that follows the celebrity abduction.

Review: When you get this book, be prepared to start reading it and to NOT get up. Seriously- it is such a page turner, that you will NOT want to put it down! I finished it in 3 hours! The author does a superb job in putting into the time and place, where booze is outlawed, there are no tvs to blast the missing toddler

I have to admit I loved the story, but I want to know more of Virginia's life. A second book maybe? While Laura was ok, I just thought Virginia more interesting. I'm not sure I totally liked the ending though. Murphy's Law comes into play and somehow the characters change in ways that seem out of place for them, and it just wasn't what I had hoped it would be after racing through the book. But having said that, this was a great little read, and it would be a perfect movie!
