BTHM WTFY 2012 button

If there is one brand that out family has trusted for years, it is Bertolli! No matter if it is premade, frozen, or pasta sauce/noodles, we know that they have quality ingredients, that our family will love! So when we were offfered a chance to try their two new frozen Classic Risottos and Classic Meal Soups for 2 selections, we were quite happy to check them out!

new bertolli meal soupsBertolli now has 6 of the frozen Meal Soups in their product line: Chicken Minestrone, Tomato Florentine and Tortellini with Chicken, Roasted Chicken and Rotini Pasta and Tuscan Style Beef and Vegetables (our favorite).

AND the 2 new flavors: Italian Wedding Meatball Soup and Ricotta and Lobster Ravioli in a Seafood Bisque, which we were sent to review (as they are not available in our area for purchase yet).

meatball soup beforeAs you can see the Italian -Style Wedding soup is filled with Mini Italian-style meatballs, spinach, bacon pieces, carrots and ditalini pasta in a savory broth. We love ditalini, and use it for cold tuna salad, so were were delighted to see it in the soup! I was fighting a case of Gardenia induced allergy/beginning of a cold, so I figured it would be just what 'doctor mom' ordered! All you do is add some water to the frozen product and let it cook for about 10 minutes. Easy peasy! Those squares you see in the before photo on the right? That is all the yummy goodness of soup, as you see below!

It definitely seemed to help, as the spices helped loosen up the sinuses! The bags claim they are for 2 people, but Dad and I each had pretty good size bowls, and we had a normal size bowl left over! We were both pretty impressed with the homemade flavor! And I was quite happy to see that the meatballs didn't shrink very much, as tends to happen with frozen foods!

We were both calling dibs on the Lobster Ravioli Bisque, but I snagged it for a meal for work. It has Ricotta and lobster-filled ravioli (so so YUMMY!) with diced celery and carrots in a rich seafood bisque. To me it was pretty close to the seafood chowder mom makes, and I had plenty left over for a second night as well!  It was just as fresh tasting as the Italian-Wedding soup, and we will definitely be adding them to our normal grocery lists!

new bertolli risottosWe had never tried any of their frozen Risottos, as again they aren't available in our area, so we were quite thrilled to be able to sample them both! If there is one thing Kiddo loves, it is rice in any form! So I was pretty sure she would like them both- I was right!

The first one we tried was the Roasted Chicken Risotto, which has Italian rice and roasted white meat chicken with Portobello mushrooms and asparagus in a Parmesan cheese cream sauce. As you can see, it looks just as great as it does on the package!

We were all pleasantly surprised at the home-cooked flavor, and freshness of the mushrooms and asparagus. The cheesy sauce even got Kiddo to try some small pieces of asparagus! Again, it is supposed to serve 2, but we used it as a side dish and it served 4 of us perfectly, with a small London Broil that we split, and salad. In fact, we would love to be able to purchase it, without the chicken, and use it strictly as a side dish!

The second Rissoto, Garlic Shrimp, contains Italian rice and garlic shrimp with zucchini, yellow squash and red peppers in a white wine cream sauce. Kiddo adores ratatouille, so I figured she would eat this one, as it had shrimp too. She did! It is definitely 'garlicky', so she didn't want to eat too much, but it was fine for the rest of us!

We are definitely sold on the risottos as well, but like using them as side dishes, versus a main dish (you wold need to double up on amount of bags needed if you did). We are quite happy with the quality and taste of the frozen meals, and will be buying them again!

I am very happy to be able to offer 2 BTHM readers the same opportunity to try 1 of each product free!
