Synopsis:
Alicia Gomez's life seems under control. She has a dancing job at a popular Miami Beach club and is saving every penny to help her family back in Mexico. One day, a stranger tries to kill her,and she cannot fathom why. Neither can Carlos Moreno and George Reid, the two colorful, bickering detectives assigned to her case. As the killer leaves behind a trail of murdered victims and a list of names, Alicia must dig into her past to find a connection. And when she joins Carlos and George in a fast-paced investigation that takes them from Miami to the Texas coast, she revisits the scene of revelry, politics, and paid sex that is the key to it all. The bodies pile up and Alicia's life hangs in the balance before the shocking truth finally surfaces.

Review: This book borders on being a novella, at only 232 pages, but it sure packs a punch! I read it in one sitting, as it flies along at a furious pace! This book has it all- a good mystery, police procedural, romance, illegal immigration and the underbelly of city life. WHEW! The author does a great job and proving excellent descriptions, so that you feel like you are there with Alicia, Carlos and George, solving the riddle, and racing against the clock to save lives! The author takes you on a roller coaster of a plot, just when you think you have it solved she gives you a new twist! My favorite type of book!

I would love to see more of the three characters and am glad that Baines is writing a triology with the 3 main characters. I can also see a TV series on one of the cable channels- the humor between the 'boys' would be hysterical, and I can picture a few actors already, who would be great in the roles! If you've got a few spare hours, pick up this book and you will NOT be disappointed!
