And now for another lovely holiday read!
This is a new series to me and I can't wait to read all the books in it!
Synopsis:
It’s the holiday season, but things are heating up in Archers Rest
Christmas is just around the corner in the Hudson Valley. Nell and her friends at the Someday Quilts shop should be making eggnog and finishing up the stitching on their last homemade gifts, but when an arsonist strikes and a beloved teacher becomes a suspect, the ladies rally behind him to clear his good name. Will they succeed in time for him to spend Christmas among loved ones or will this be a chilly winter for the town of Archers Rest?
The author says: "I wanted to write a fun story with all the traditions of Christmas in a small town: friends coming together, love in the air and, of course, arson, suspects, secrets and lies. Cathedral Windows is a novella (about 80 pages). It's a chance for folks unfamiliar with the Someday Quilts gang to meet them, and for fans of the series to catch up with old friends.
For new readers, the full length novels in the Someday series are: The Lover's Knot, The Drunkard's Path, The Double Cross and The Devil's Puzzle. Also watch for a second e-story in the spring and the 5th novel in the series, The Double Wedding Ring, out in Sept. 2013
Review: I loved this book! Having never read any of the Archers Rest series, I was quickly reminded of Jan Karon's Mitford series of books (which I read each and every one of, multiple times!). I love that all the books are based on a quilt pattern, and that it is incorporated into the story. What a unique idea! I also loved how the story was so modern, with an Iraqi war vet as one of the central characters. The cathedral windows pattern is intricate, VERY time consuming, and made of ordinary fabrics, yet it is an amazing piece when finished. Much like how the characters of Archer's Rest all come together and make their community a place you would want to live in!
Check out a version of the pattern, that is easy to accomplish, as it's only on a pillow top! Gorgeous, right?
(You can buy the pattern on their Etsy Shop! )
This was another charming read for the holiday season and I am glad it was offered to me to read- now I just need to get the other books!. The books would be delightful for Christmas gifts to any quilt lovers/makers among your family and friends!
