Ah the Christmas season, walk into a bookstore and hit the kids' section and you'll be bombarded with bright covers! But if you are looking for books that will appeal to boys and girls, we've got a few suggestions!
the Peaceful Forest , India's Tale of Kindess to Animals by Kosa Ely, Illustrated by Ana Johanson
Synopsis: In this ancient parable from India, a forest-dwelling hunter learns that cruelty has consequences and that compassion has rewards. When the hunter meets the wise man Narada, “Do unto others as they would do unto you” takes on a very concrete meaning as the sage leads the hunter on an imagined journey in which the hunter becomes the hunted. When the hunter realizes how his actions affect other living things, he has a change of heart and begins to live in peace with the animals he once pursued.
Review: This is a gorgeously illustrated book, and one that truly teaches compassion, and the Golden Rule, in a way that is easily understood by all kids. The book is perfect for reading out loud and leading discussions with kids (perfect for school settings), and teacher's gifts as well!
Ogg and Bob Meet Mammoth by Ian Fraser, Illustrated by Mary Ann Fraser, aimed at Grades 1–3
Synopsis: Ogg and Bob are cavemen. They’re also best friends. Ogg is good at thinking of things for the two friends to do together. Bob is good at solving the problems that he and Ogg encounter. But what happens when these two cavemen decide to get a pet mammoth? With simple text, funny "caveman speak," and full-color illustrations on every page, these delightful chapter books are a treat for children.
Review: This is the 2nd book in the Ogg and Bob series (#1 is Ogg and Bob, Life with Mammoth). The book is adorable and Kiddo delighted in how Bob and Ogg thought Mammoth was a bad pet until he helped them! Their attempt to 'train' him was met with even more laughs! This is an adorable to read out loud book to your kids and get to see them double over with laughter! Even kids ages 4-5 will love the story, and older kids will love the simple to read story! The illustrations are sweet and very kid-friendly as well.

Super-Dragon by Steven Kroll, Illustrated by Doug Holgate
Synopsis: Great balls of fire! Drago wants to be in the flying contest. But he hasn’t learned to fly yet, and his family says he’s too little to learn. That doesn’t stop Drago! When his family’s asleep, he tries and tries, but SPLAT... he fails. Then he asks a bird to help him, and they practice, practice, practice. Comic book-style illustrations rendered in pencil, ink, and Photoshop bring Drago to life and show that being little can’t stop big dreams.
Review: This book is perfect for boys, but girls will love it too! Kids will relate to Drago being told he's too young to be in the race because he can't do what the adult dragons can -FLY! His patience and determination in becoming better than his siblings, will delight and amuse kids. The illustrations are adorable and will have you cheering Drago on. Adults will laugh at the phrases and their original meanings. Fun for all!
