An intimate exploration of the personality and legacy of Johnny Cash, this is a unique portrait of a deeply spiritual, creative, and passionate soul whose music sprang from the way he lived.

Review: This is an AMAZING compilation that really gives you an all-access look at the man behind the public figure- he was an amazing artist and very creative. If you have someone who loves Johnny Cash's music, they will adore getting this behind the scenes access of his life and thought processes. I loved the way the info was presented, with pages that fold out, colored 'scraps' of paper- it makes you feel like you really are taking a trip through the family memory box! Got someone who loves 70s rock?
Check out Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender by Richard Grey
freddie mercury the great pretender cover

Synopsis: Freddie Mercury was an iconic singer who was hugely popular throughout his brilliant music career, as the lead singer of Queen and as a solo artist. The world mourned his untimely death in 1991, but he was incredibly prolific and left behind a rich legacy of recordings, not all of which have been released to date.

The twentieth anniversary of Freddie's death will see the reissue of Barcelona,;the groundbreaking album he recorded with Montserrat CaballĂ©, and everyone is talking about the movie that stars Sacha Baron Cohen as Freddie Mercury. In addition, Queen remains one of the most popular bands in history. This book coincides with the release of the documentary (by the same name), that shares incredible footage and photos with the book.

Review: This lavishly illustrated book celebrates one of THE key players in the influential British music scene of the 70's- when I think SHOWMAN, I think Freddie. Nobody did it better, except maybe Sir Elton, but Freddie had the sex appeal. Freddie's colorful life is lovingly and painstakingly recounted in photographs as well as the history of Queen. This is a wonderful photographic history of a man who led an incredible life, and was part of so many people's memories and lives.

Richard Gray is the photographer and designer behind some of the best recognized Queen imagery of the past 26 years. He entered the music world in the early '80s, and has worked with Kate Bush, David Bowie, Duran Duran, and Live Aid. He met Queen in 1986, and photographed them on stage at their final concert with Freddie. His book projects include 40 Years of Queen and Queen: The Complete Illustrated Lyrics. He lives in London, England.
